December 19 at the Arena-Auditorium

Fall 2026 Commencement is December 19, 2026, held at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie. The date comes from the University of Wyoming’s own registrar academic calendar.

UW states that it holds commencement twice a year, in winter and spring. That is worth noting because it is unusual among the campuses on this site — most run one flagship spring ceremony, and their December graduates are folded into it. Wyoming’s winter ceremony is a real event with its own weekend, and it is the next one.

One state, one public university

The University of Wyoming is the only four-year public university in Wyoming.

That single fact shapes the weekend more than any hotel policy could. A ceremony here does not draw from a region or a metro catchment; it draws from the entire state, and from families who in many cases are making a long drive across it in December to get there. Laramie is not absorbing a local crowd. It is absorbing a statewide one, in the worst month for the roads that crowd travels on.

The spring date is still open

Wyoming had not published a spring 2027 commencement date as of this check.

For reference rather than prediction: the most recently confirmed spring ceremony ran on May 16, 2026, at the Arena-Auditorium, in three sessions — 8:00 a.m. for selected undergraduate colleges, 12:30 p.m. for all graduate students, 3:30 p.m. for the rest — with a separate UW at Casper ceremony on May 18 at the Ford Wyoming Center.
