Book Friday and Saturday nights, 25 and 26 September 2026, for UK's Family Weekend, and take the university at its word: it tells families directly that "hotels and other accommodations fill quickly during UK Football weekends" and recommends booking early. Two dated things sit alongside the room. Registration is open and it is what unlocks the football ticket link, and any dietary need has to be on the registration form before 1 September 2026. If you are booking a different autumn Saturday instead, Keeneland's Fall Meet runs 2 to 24 October and puts a second crowd on the same hotels.

The university tells you the rooms go

Most campuses on this site leave families to discover the squeeze themselves. UK writes it into its own Family Weekend checklist: “Hotels and other accommodations fill quickly during UK Football weekends,” followed by a recommendation to book early.

That is worth more than any rate we could quote. A university’s parents office exists to get families to campus, and this one is telling you the beds may not be there.

Family Weekend 2026 runs 25 to 27 September, Friday to Sunday, and it is built around a home football game. The booking links on this page are set to the Friday and Saturday nights.

Registering is how you get a ticket

This is the part that is easy to get wrong, because it looks like admin and it is actually the ticket queue.

UK says Family Weekend football tickets went on sale on 1 July, with reserved seating from $30 plus fees, and that registered guests receive the ticket purchase link in their registration confirmation email. There is no separate public ticket path described. Register, and the link comes to you.

One deadline sits behind it. Any dietary requirement has to be on the registration form before 1 September 2026, and UK is candid that even then it cannot guarantee completely gluten-free, dairy-free or nut-free spaces. That is three weeks out at the time of writing and it is the last point at which anything can be changed.

If someone in your party needs a wheelchair or other mobility equipment, UK asks you to arrange it ahead, bringing it or renting locally. It flags the campus as large, with long distances and standing at events.

October is two events, not one

If the weekend you are booking is not Family Weekend, the racing calendar matters.

Keeneland runs its Fall Meet from 2 to 24 October 2026, and Kentucky plays home football through the same stretch. Keeneland is about fifteen minutes from campus, so there is no useful sense in which these are separate lodging markets. One Lexington hotel base, two crowds wanting it on the same weekends, every year.

Note that this is the reverse of the spring position on our commencement pages. Keeneland’s Spring Meet finishes two to three weeks before graduation, close enough to firm the market without overlapping it. In October the overlap is real. Advice that transfers from one does not transfer to the other.

Where the rooms actually are

The base is not tiny. This is a mid-size city, and the Hyatt Regency Lexington alone runs 366 rooms, connected to Rupp Arena by a covered skywalk. That depth is why Kentucky grades below the extreme end of our booking-pressure scale.

What an autumn Saturday changes is not the size of the base but how many people are bidding for it. Georgetown, about 20 minutes north, and Richmond, about 30 minutes south, are the two ring markets verified with drive times, and the ladder below sorts them. Georgetown is closer and thinner, Richmond a little farther and a little deeper.

Kroger Field itself seats 61,000 after a renovation of roughly $120 million, on an 86-acre site on the Lexington campus.

What this page does not claim

The full Family Weekend schedule, which UK publishes separately and which we have not reproduced here, and the football opponent and kickoff time, which are set by television networks weeks out rather than a year.

No Lexington property was confirmed to run a Family Weekend room block, a minimum stay or a cancellation deadline, so there is no booking deadline on this page beyond the university’s own advice to be early.

The hotel policies and availability figures in this cluster were researched for commencement weekend in May. They have not been re-checked against a September Family Weekend or an October race-meet Saturday. Drive times carry over unchanged; the counts behind them should not be read as an autumn forecast.

Frequently asked questions

When is UK Family Weekend 2026?

September 25 to 27, 2026, published by UK's Parents and Families office. It is built around a home football game, which is why it sits on this page rather than a separate one.

Does the university say anything about hotels?

Yes, and unusually plainly. Its own Family Weekend checklist tells families that "hotels and other accommodations fill quickly during UK Football weekends" and recommends booking early. That is the university describing a constraint rather than a marketing line.

How do we get football tickets?

Through registration. UK says Family Weekend football tickets went on sale on 1 July with reserved seating from $30 plus fees, and that registered guests receive the ticket purchase link in their registration confirmation email. Registering is the route to the ticket, not a separate errand.

Is there a deadline we can miss?

One that catches people out. Any dietary requirement has to be declared on the registration form before 1 September 2026. UK also says it cannot guarantee completely gluten-free, dairy-free or nut-free spaces even when told, so treat that date as the last point at which you can influence anything.

What about accessibility?

UK warns that the campus is large and that Family Weekend guests may have to cover long distances and stand at events. It asks anyone needing a wheelchair or other mobility equipment to arrange it in advance, either bringing it or renting from a local vendor, rather than expecting it on site.

What if I am booking a different autumn Saturday?

Then Keeneland is the thing to know about. Its Fall Meet runs 2 to 24 October 2026, about fifteen minutes from campus, so for three weeks a racing crowd and a football crowd bid for the same Lexington rooms. That overlap is structural and repeats every year.

Where are the fallback towns?

Georgetown, Kentucky is about 20 minutes out and Richmond about 30. Georgetown is closer and the thinner market of the two. The ladder below sorts them by drive time.
