THE DEADLINE IS THE STORY. Registration for the Philadelphia ceremonies closes on 13 SEPTEMBER 2026, and the university warns it may close earlier if the venue fills. That is not hypothetical: its own San Antonio round in July 2026 closed with the note "Registration closed due to reaching venue capacity." THE CEREMONY IS NOT IN ARIZONA. Despite the name, the University of Phoenix holds no commencement at its Phoenix headquarters. It rents a venue in a different city each round, and the last of 2026 is the LIACOURAS CENTER, which is Temple University's arena at 1776 N Broad Street in PHILADELPHIA. Three ceremonies: FRIDAY 20 NOVEMBER at 2:00 p.m., and SATURDAY 21 NOVEMBER at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., all Eastern. Graduates must arrive up to 90 minutes before the start, not at it. Each graduate gets one ticket plus up to six for guests, seven in total. No 2027 city has been named.

Register before 13 September, or there may be nothing to book

Most pages on this site are about finding a room before a town fills. This one is about something earlier: getting your graduate a seat at all.

Registration for the Philadelphia ceremonies closes on 13 September 2026. The university states it as “September 13, 2026 at 12 am”, which most naturally means the midnight that begins the 13th, so treat Saturday 12 September as the real deadline rather than testing the wording.

And do not leave it that late, because the university tells you plainly that it might not wait:

Registrations for in-person commencement ceremonies are closely monitored to assess venue seating capacity requirements. If we reach capacity, we may be required to close registration earlier than planned.

That has already happened once this year. The San Antonio round on 24 and 25 July carries the note “Registration closed due to reaching venue capacity” on the university’s own page. This is an institution reporting its own sellout, which is better evidence than anything a hotel will ever publish.

It is not in Arizona

The name does the damage here, so it is worth being blunt. The University of Phoenix is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, and holds no commencement there.

It runs regional ceremonies in rented venues, chosen each time, in its own words, “based on venue availability, appropriate space and suitability of destinations for eligible students and their families”. Its two 2026 rounds were San Antonio in July and Philadelphia in November.

The Philadelphia venue is the Liacouras Center, 1776 N Broad Street, which is Temple University’s arena. A family booking Arizona for this ceremony is booking the wrong state, and a family booking “near the university” has nowhere to book at all.

The three ceremonies, and the arrival time that actually governs

Ceremony Doors Graduates arrive by Starts
Friday 20 Nov, afternoon 12:30 p.m. 1:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m.
Saturday 21 Nov, morning 9:00 a.m. 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m.
Saturday 21 Nov, afternoon 2:00 p.m. 2:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m.

All times Eastern.

The middle column is the one that matters and the one people miss. A graduate in the Saturday morning ceremony has to be inside by 9:30, an hour before the ceremony they were told starts at 10:30. Guests come through magnetometers before that.

Worth doing the arithmetic on parking, because it constrains the other end: Temple’s lots open two hours before an event, which for the 10:30 ceremony is roughly 8:30. That is thirty minutes before doors and an hour before the graduate is due inside. You cannot arrive much earlier than that, so the window is genuinely narrow rather than generous. That timing is our arithmetic from the venue’s stated practice, not a schedule the university publishes.

Seven tickets, and the step that catches people out

Each graduate reserves one ticket for themselves and up to six for guests, seven in total. They are digital, can be sent to guests electronically, and are shown at the entrance.

The trap is in how the number is fixed:

The official number of tickets you will receive is based on what is requested through the ticketing website (not what is requested when registering).

So asking for six guests when registering does not reserve six seats. The ticketing email arrives about three weeks before the ceremony, and that is when the real request happens. Diarise it.

Graduates also receive a name card by post before the day, which is handed to the announcer before crossing the stage. It is not reprintable on the morning.

Regalia has three separate deadlines

Ordered through the university’s regalia vendor, and the dates are not the same for everyone:

Order by For
Friday 9 October Doctoral regalia
Friday 6 November Graduate regalia, standard shipping
Friday 13 November Graduate regalia, two-day expedited

A limited amount is available to buy on the day, card payment only. Military cords can be ordered free in advance and are also available on the day.

What you cannot carry in, and cannot leave behind

The Liacouras Center runs a clear bag policy with exact limits.

Allowed: a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches; a one-gallon clear freezer bag; a clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches; medically necessary items and diaper bags after inspection.

Prohibited: backpacks and oversized bags, professional cameras and any video or audio recording device, selfie sticks, wrapped gifts, banners, signs and flags, noisemakers, outside food, and any bottle, can or beverage container. Long pointed umbrellas are out; collapsible flat-topped ones are fine.

Two lines deserve emphasis. The camera rule bites hardest at a graduation, where a good camera is exactly what a family brings. And the arena states it “will not check or store any prohibited items”, so anything turned away goes back to the car or the hotel, which is its own argument for staying on the subway line.

Walk-through magnetometers are used at every event, and guests are asked to remove phones and keys before passing through.

Getting there without a car

This is the most transit-friendly round the university runs. The arena is on Temple’s campus directly on the SEPTA Broad Street Line, with Center City under two miles south and 30th Street Station about the same. SEPTA Regional Rail and buses also serve it.

If you drive, Temple manages parking, with over 3,500 spaces within a short walk and lots opening two hours before. Spaces can be pre-booked through ParkMobile. Rideshare cannot pick up in front of the Broad Street doors; use 1800 North Broad Street or 1300 Cecil B. Moore Avenue.

Our where-to-stay page works through the areas against that transit line.

If you cannot travel

Each ceremony is streamed live, with a replay for up to 30 days. One caveat decides whether it substitutes for the trip: only graduates attending in person have their names displayed and announced. The stream shows the ceremony; it does not include your graduate.

What we checked

The university’s commencement page and its Philadelphia 2026 page were read at source on 28 August 2026, along with the Liacouras Center’s own security and parking pages. Every weekday above was verified: 20 November 2026 is a Friday, 21 November a Saturday, and 13 September a Sunday.

Not published, and each a real absence: any 2027 city or date; a guest ticket policy beyond the seven-ticket total; a bag policy issued by the university itself rather than the venue; and any commencement rate, minimum stay or cancellation term at a Philadelphia hotel.

One ambiguity we could not resolve and have not smoothed over: the deadline is written “September 13, 2026 at 12 am”, and 12 a.m. is genuinely ambiguous in ordinary use. We read it as the start of the 13th and say so rather than presenting one reading as certain.

Frequently asked questions

Is University of Phoenix graduation in Phoenix, Arizona?

No, and the name misleads almost everyone. The university is headquartered in Phoenix and holds no commencement there. It runs regional ceremonies in rented venues, selected in its own words on "venue availability, appropriate space and suitability of destinations". Its 2026 rounds were San Antonio in July and Philadelphia in November. If you are booking Arizona for a November 2026 ceremony, you are booking the wrong state.

What is the registration deadline?

13 September 2026 for the Philadelphia ceremonies, stated by the university as "September 13, 2026 at 12 am". That phrasing is ambiguous, and 12 a.m. most naturally means the midnight that begins the 13th, so treat Saturday 12 September as your real deadline rather than testing it. Do not leave it to the last day in any case: the university warns that registrations are monitored against venue seating capacity and that it may close them earlier than planned.

Can a round really close early?

Yes, and it already has this year. The university's San Antonio round on 24 and 25 July 2026 carries the note "Registration closed due to reaching venue capacity" on its own commencement page. That is the institution reporting its own sellout, which is rarer and more reliable evidence than anything a hotel publishes.

When do we actually need to be there?

Earlier than the ceremony time suggests, because the graduate's arrival deadline is what governs. For the Friday 2:00 p.m. ceremony, doors open 12:30 and graduates must arrive no later than 1:00. For the Saturday 10:30 a.m. ceremony, doors are 9:00 and graduates arrive by 9:30. For the Saturday 3:30 p.m., doors are 2:00 and graduates arrive by 2:30. All times Eastern.

How many guests can come?

Up to six, plus the graduate's own ticket, seven in total. Tickets are digital, sent to guests electronically, and shown at the entrance. There is a trap in how the count is set: the university states that "the official number of tickets you will receive is based on what is requested through the ticketing website (not what is requested when registering)." So requesting seats at registration does not reserve them. The ticketing email arrives about three weeks before the ceremony.

What can we take into the Liacouras Center?

Very little, and nothing can be left at the door. The arena permits a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches, plus medically necessary items and diaper bags after inspection. Backpacks and oversized bags are prohibited, and so are professional cameras and any video or audio recording device, wrapped gifts, banners and signs, outside food, and any bottle or beverage container. The arena states it "will not check or store any prohibited items". Walk-through magnetometers are used at every event.

Do we need a car?

No, and this is the easiest round of the year to attend without one. The Liacouras Center sits on Temple University's campus on the SEPTA Broad Street Line, with Center City under two miles south and 30th Street Station about the same. If you do drive, Temple manages over 3,500 spaces within a short walk and its lots open two hours before an event, which can be pre-booked through ParkMobile. Rideshare cannot pick up in front of the Broad Street doors; the designated points are 1800 North Broad Street and 1300 Cecil B. Moore Avenue.

Can we watch instead of travelling?

Yes. Each ceremony is streamed live with a replay available for up to 30 days afterwards. One thing decides whether that is a real substitute: only graduates attending IN PERSON have their names displayed and announced. If hearing the name read is the point of the day, the stream is not the same event.

When is University of Phoenix graduation 2027?

Not published. The university lists only its upcoming ceremonies and has named no 2027 city or date. Because it selects each venue on availability and suitability rather than returning to a fixed campus, the 2026 pattern of San Antonio and Philadelphia says nothing about where 2027 will be. This page will not guess.
