The first thing to get right is the city. Despite the name, the University of Phoenix holds no ceremony in Arizona: the November 2026 round is at the LIACOURAS CENTER, Temple University's arena at 1776 N Broad Street in PHILADELPHIA. The second thing is that this is the rare round you can attend WITHOUT A CAR. The arena sits on the SEPTA Broad Street Line, Center City is under two miles south and 30th Street Station about the same, so a Center City hotel puts you a subway ride from the door. That matters more than usual here, because the arena will not store anything it turns away at security, and being a short ride from your room is the cheapest fix for that. If you do drive, Temple manages over 3,500 spaces within a short walk and its lots open two hours before. Late November in Philadelphia is well outside the city's peak season, and we have found no evidence it tightens for this event.

Which ceremony are you booking?

Three ceremonies across two days, and the graduate's arrival deadline is up to 90 minutes before the ceremony start. That gap, not the start time, is what should decide where you sleep.

Ceremony times and the registration deadline are the university's own, read at source on 28 August 2026. The last row is a genuine blank: the university publishes only its upcoming ceremonies and has named no 2027 location.

The city is Philadelphia, not Phoenix

It is worth saying before anything else, because the name catches people out and the mistake is expensive.

The University of Phoenix is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. It holds no commencement there. It rents a venue in a different city for each round, selected in its own words on “venue availability, appropriate space and suitability of destinations”. The 2026 rounds were San Antonio in July and Philadelphia on 20 and 21 November.

The venue is the Liacouras Center at 1776 N Broad Street, which is Temple University’s arena. So there is no campus to stay near, no university district that belongs to this university, and booking “near the University of Phoenix” would put you 2,000 miles away.

Before you book anything at all, note the date that governs the trip: registration closes 13 September 2026, and the July round closed early after filling. The ceremony logistics page covers that in full.

Why the subway line, and not the mileage, decides this one

Almost every other cluster on this site is a supply problem. This one is not. Philadelphia in late November is a large market outside its own peak season, and one ceremony at Temple does not move it. We have found no evidence that it tightens for this event and we have not measured it.

So what does your choice of area actually buy? A subway ride instead of a drive.

The Liacouras Center sits on the SEPTA Broad Street Line. Center City is under two miles south on that same line, and 30th Street Station is about the same distance southwest. That makes this the rare round a family can attend with no car at all.

Two things make it worth more than convenience.

The first is the Friday 2:00 p.m. ceremony, with graduates due inside by 1:00. Driving two miles up North Broad on a Friday afternoon and finding a space is a genuinely different proposition from riding underneath it.

The second is the door. The Liacouras Center runs a strict clear bag policy, prohibits professional cameras and any beverage container, and states plainly that it will not check or store anything it turns away. Something in your bag will be a surprise. Being fifteen minutes from your room by subway is the cheapest possible answer to that, and it is worth more than a small difference in rate.

If you do drive, the numbers are comfortable: Temple manages over 3,500 spaces within a short walk, lots open two hours before, and spaces can be pre-booked through ParkMobile. Just note that lots opening two hours ahead means about 8:30 for the 10:30 ceremony, only half an hour before doors, so the window is narrower than it sounds.

What we could not pin down

No room count, rate, minimum stay or cancellation policy for any Philadelphia property, and none is estimated. Availability across the city has not been measured for 19 to 22 November; it is described rather than counted, which on a market this size is the honest way round.

The university publishes no hotel block, no partner rates and no lodging guidance of any kind for this round. It publishes no 2027 city either, so there is nothing here to plan a future trip around.

The four areas, closest first

Ordered by distance from the Liacouras Center, but the Broad Street Line runs through the first two of them, so read the transit before the mileage. Every area carries its trade, since an area guide with no downsides is an advertisement.

  1. North Broad and the Temple campus

Anyone in the Saturday morning ceremony who wants the shortest possible walk

    At the venue

The arena is on Temple University's campus, so the immediate area is a university district rather than a hotel district. What it gives you is the walk: no parking decision, no transit connection, nothing between the room and the door on a morning when the graduate has to be inside by 9:30.

It is also where the parking is if you are driving in. Temple manages over 3,500 spaces within a short walk and its lots open two hours before an event, bookable in advance through ParkMobile.

The tradeHotel supply here is thin compared with Center City, and we could not source a room count, a commencement rate or a minimum stay for any property near the arena. It is a campus neighbourhood, so the evening options are Temple's rather than the city's.

    Check rooms near the arena

The arena and the Broad Street Line

Three nights around the round, arriving the day before the Friday ceremony. The arena is marked with Center City to the south; the subway runs down Broad Street between them.

Live availability from Stay22. Opening this loads their map.

  2. Center City

Most families, and anyone who would rather not drive at all

Under two miles south, on the same subway line

This is the recommendation for most people. Center City holds the deepest hotel supply in the region, it is where you will eat, and the Broad Street Line connects it directly to the arena, so the journey on the day is a subway ride rather than a parking problem.

For the Friday 2:00 p.m. ceremony that matters more than it looks. Driving two miles up Broad Street on a Friday afternoon is a different proposition from riding under it.

The tradeYou are relying on a transit line, so build in more margin than the map suggests, particularly for the Saturday morning ceremony with its 9:30 arrival deadline. Nothing here has been measured for rates or availability on this weekend.

    Check rooms in Center City

  3. University City and 30th Street

    Anyone arriving by train

    About two miles southwest

Built around 30th Street Station, which is where you arrive on Amtrak or SEPTA Regional Rail. If the train is how you are getting to Philadelphia, staying here removes a transfer at the start and end of the trip.

It has its own hotel supply serving Penn and Drexel, independent of whatever is happening on North Broad Street.

The tradeIt is not on the Broad Street Line, so the journey to the arena is a connection rather than a straight ride. For a 9:30 a.m. arrival deadline that is a real difference.

    Check rooms near 30th Street

  4. The airport and King of Prussia

Late arrivals, and anyone priced out of the centre

PHL eight miles, King of Prussia fourteen

Philadelphia International is eight miles southwest with its own hotel cluster and a train into Center City, which makes it a reasonable place to sleep off a late Thursday arrival.

King of Prussia, fourteen miles northwest, is a large suburban hotel base whose pricing pays no attention to anything happening at Temple. It is the fallback if the centre is expensive.

The tradeBoth cost you the transit advantage that makes this round easy. From King of Prussia you are driving into North Philadelphia and parking, which for the Saturday morning ceremony means leaving early enough to absorb both. Neither has been measured for this weekend.

Distances are straight-line miles computed from geocoded published street addresses on 28 August 2026. Drive times are approximate and have not been measured against live traffic, which in Philadelphia on a Friday afternoon is the variable that decides the 2:00 p.m. ceremony. Availability and rates have not been measured anywhere in this ring for this weekend and are marked as such. Temple University publishes over 3,500 parking spaces within a short walk of the arena, and its lots open two hours before an event.

Frequently asked questions

Which city is the University of Phoenix graduation in?

Philadelphia, for the November 2026 round. Not Phoenix. The university is headquartered in Arizona but holds no ceremony there; it rents a venue in a different city each round, and this one is at Temple University's Liacouras Center, 1776 N Broad Street. Its other 2026 round was in San Antonio.

Do I need a hotel with parking?

Probably not, and that is unusual for this site. The arena is on the SEPTA Broad Street Line with Center City under two miles south, so a Center City hotel puts you a subway ride from the door. If you do drive, Temple manages over 3,500 spaces within a short walk and its lots open two hours before an event, bookable in advance through ParkMobile.

How many nights should I book?

Two for a single ceremony, arriving the day before. The window on this page runs 19 to 22 November because the round spans a Friday and a Saturday and some families attend more than one ceremony. If only the Saturday morning concerns you, the Friday and Saturday nights are enough.

Will Philadelphia be busy that weekend?

We have not measured it and will not guess. What is worth knowing is the season: late November is well outside Philadelphia's peak, and this is a metropolitan market that a single ceremony at Temple does not move. The thing that genuinely fills at this university is the ceremony itself, not the city, and its previous 2026 round closed registration early after reaching venue capacity.

Why does staying close matter if the city is not full?

Because of what happens at the door. The Liacouras Center runs a strict clear bag policy, prohibits professional cameras and any beverage container, and states it will not check or store anything it turns away. Being a short subway ride or walk from your room is the cheapest way to deal with that, and it is worth more here than a few dollars of room rate.

Where does a rideshare drop us?

Not at the main doors. The arena does not allow rideshare pick-up directly in front of its Broad Street entrance, and directs traffic to 1800 North Broad Street or 1300 Cecil B. Moore Avenue instead. Allow the walk at both ends, especially against a 9:30 a.m. arrival deadline.

Where should I stay for a 2027 University of Phoenix graduation?

Nowhere yet, and nobody can tell you. The university publishes only its upcoming ceremonies and has named no 2027 city. Because it selects each venue on availability and suitability rather than returning to a campus, the 2026 pattern of San Antonio and Philadelphia predicts nothing. Our ceremony logistics page carries what is published and what is not.
