Start with the arithmetic, because it decides everything. Whitewater has three hotels: the Fairfield Inn with 71 rooms, the Baymont next to it with 60, and the Super 8 across town with 42. All three are on UW-Whitewater's own overnight-accommodations list, and together they hold 173 rooms. More than 1,730 students graduated from this campus in May 2026. The ceremony on Saturday 15 May 2027 runs as two sittings, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., already published on the university's parent and family page, so demand lands on the Friday night for everyone and the Saturday for the afternoon families. Most of them will not find a room in Whitewater. Book it now, refundably, if you can; otherwise Fort Atkinson is 18 minutes north with a small base and Janesville 36 minutes southwest with I-90 chain hotels in depth. December's round, Saturday 19 December at 10 a.m., is the same picture, sooner.

The university’s own list is three hotels long
UW-Whitewater publishes an overnight-accommodations sheet for visitors. Its Whitewater entries are the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites, the Baymont by Wyndham and the Super 8 by Wyndham. That is the town.
Room counts, from the venue directories: 71 at the Fairfield, 60 at the Baymont, 42 at the Super 8. 173 rooms.
The class, from the university’s own news: more than 1,730 graduates from the Whitewater campus in May 2026.
No matched-window availability series has been run for Whitewater, so this page publishes no count of what remains on the ceremony weekend. It does not need to. Ten families per room is not a shortage; it is a town that cannot hold its own commencement, and the university’s list, by reaching to Fort Atkinson, Janesville and beyond, says as much.
The three, and where they are
The Fairfield at 1242 West Main Street and the Baymont at 1355 West Main are neighbours on the west edge of town, about a mile and a half and six minutes from Kachel Fieldhouse, the 2026 venue. The Super 8 at 917 East Milwaukee Street is on the east side, about two miles and eight minutes.
If you can get one of these, take it. Refundable, because the venue and college assignments for 2027 are not yet published, and early, because 173 goes fast.
Two sittings, already on the calendar
UW-Whitewater has published its 2027 schedule further ahead than most: Saturday 15 May 2027, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., on its parent and family page, with the date on the registrar’s calendar as “May 15 (Sa)”. Which colleges walk at which sitting is not yet assigned.
The Friday night is the one everyone needs. A 3 p.m. sitting runs into the evening once the fieldhouse empties, and those families usually want the Saturday night too.
The December round is Saturday 19 December 2026 at 10 a.m., also published. Same hotels, the holidays added, and closer.
Where the overflow goes
Fort Atkinson, 18 minutes north on WI-89. A small city with an established cluster serving its own businesses and events. Nearest, and small.
Janesville, 36 minutes southwest. A regional city with national-chain hotels at its I-90 exits: the first real depth, and where most of the 1,730 families end up. One thing to know: UW-Whitewater’s Rock County campus is in Janesville and holds its own ceremony on Tuesday 18 May 2027 at 6:30 p.m., a separate event on a separate day.
Watertown, 45 minutes north, and Beloit, 55 minutes south on the interstate, round out the ring.
Milwaukee and Madison are each about an hour with unlimited rooms and an unpleasant drive before a 10 a.m. sitting. They are not in the table.
Drive times are off-peak road routes to Kachel Fieldhouse computed on 13 September 2026, not measured journeys.
Not claimed here
No commencement-specific hotel policy, because none of the three publishes one. No 2027 venue; Kachel Fieldhouse hosted 2026 and appears here as history. No availability count, because none was measured.

Frequently asked questions
How many hotels does Whitewater have?
Three, and UW-Whitewater lists them itself: the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites (71 rooms per Northstar), the Baymont by Wyndham (60 per Cvent) and the Super 8 by Wyndham (42 per Northstar). 173 rooms in total.
Which is closest to the ceremony?
The Fairfield and the Baymont are neighbours on West Main Street, about a mile and a half and six minutes from Kachel Fieldhouse, where the 2026 ceremonies were held. The Super 8 is on the east side, eight minutes.
Will Whitewater sell out?
No matched-window availability series has been run for Whitewater, so this page publishes no count. 173 rooms against more than 1,730 graduates and their families is the widest gap in this batch of clusters, and the answer follows from it.
Where do families actually stay?
Fort Atkinson, 18 minutes north, is the nearest overflow with an established but small cluster. Janesville, 36 minutes southwest, has national-chain hotels at its I-90 exits and is the first real depth. Watertown and Beloit are 45 and 55 minutes.
Which night do we need?
Friday 14 May for everyone; Saturday too if your sitting is the 3 p.m. UW-Whitewater has published both sittings, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., but not which colleges are in which. For December, Friday 18 December for the 10 a.m. ceremony.
Is Milwaukee or Madison sensible?
Each is about an hour with effectively unlimited rooms, and each is a long drive before a 10 a.m. sitting. Neither is in the ring table for that reason; both are the fallback of last resort.
What about the Rock County campus?
It has its own ceremony, Tuesday 18 May 2027 at 6:30 p.m. in Janesville, per the same university page. A different event on a different day; this cluster is the Whitewater campus.
