Do not book near the campus. UWF holds commencement at the Pensacola Bay Center, downtown, twelve miles and twenty minutes south of the university, and every recent round has been there. The Courtyard Pensacola Downtown, 118 rooms, is a three-minute drive from the arena and on UWF's own local hotels list; the Hilton Garden Inn on Airport Boulevard, 137 rooms, and the Courtyard on Creighton Road, 90, sit on the corridor between downtown and campus, thirteen minutes out. Pensacola is a Gulf Coast city and will not run out of rooms for a graduation; downtown on a Saturday fills first. December is settled, Saturday 12 December 2026 at the Bay Center, undergraduates 10 a.m. and graduate 2 p.m. Spring is Saturday 1 May 2027 on a registrar calendar UWF marks subject to change, so book spring only on a cancellable rate.

The campus is the wrong place to look

UWF’s campus sits on the north side of Pensacola, and its commencement does not happen there. The ceremonies are at the Pensacola Bay Center, 201 East Gregory Street, downtown, about twelve miles and twenty minutes south. UWF’s commencement page states the arena for December 2026, and the Spring 2026 round, three sittings, was there too.

So the question is not which hotel is near the university. It is which hotel is near the arena, and downtown Pensacola answers it easily.

Three from the university’s own list

UWF’s procurement office publishes a local hotels and discounts page. Three of its entries sit on the useful line between the arena and the campus.

Courtyard Pensacola Downtown, 700 East Chase Street. Under a mile and three minutes from the Bay Center. 118 rooms per the Cvent venue directory. The obvious choice.

Hilton Garden Inn Pensacola Airport - Medical Center, 1144 Airport Boulevard. About six miles and thirteen minutes from the arena, halfway to campus. 137 rooms, the largest of the three.

Courtyard Pensacola, 451 Creighton Road, north of the airport. About seven miles and thirteen minutes. 90 rooms.

No matched-window availability series has been run for Pensacola, so this page publishes no count. It also does not need to warn you: a Gulf Coast city holds far more rooms than a commencement needs. Downtown on a Saturday fills first; that is the only pressure.

December is settled; spring is a calendar row

December 2026 is stated in full on UWF’s commencement page: Saturday 12 December 2026 at the Pensacola Bay Center, undergraduates at 10 a.m. and graduate degrees at 2 p.m. Book the Friday night without hesitation.

Spring 2027 is one line on the registrar’s academic dates page: 1 May 2027, Spring Commencement Ceremony, and that page states its calendar is subject to change. The commencement office has published nothing for spring. 1 May 2027 is a Saturday, and it is the last day of classes and exams on the same calendar.

That flag decides the advice. Book spring only on a cancellable rate. In a city with this much inventory there is no reason to lock in a non-refundable room months ahead against a date the university has said may move.

Two sittings, three sittings, and the nights

December’s two sittings, morning and early afternoon, make the Friday night the only one most families need. Spring 2026 ran three sittings at the arena, 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., split by college with graduate degrees last. If 2027 repeats that, a 5:30 p.m. sitting means the Saturday night too. Spring times are not published.

The ring, for completeness

Milton, 36 minutes northeast, with branded hotels along US 90 and I-10, nearer the campus than the arena. Navarre, 43 minutes east, a beach community priced for the beach. Crestview, 64 minutes on I-10. In a market this size the ring is nominal; the real decision is downtown versus the airport corridor. Drive times are off-peak road routes to the Bay Center computed on 13 September 2026, not measured journeys.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the ceremony?

The Pensacola Bay Center, 201 East Gregory Street, downtown, twelve miles from the UWF campus. UWF's commencement page states it for December 2026, and the Spring 2026 round was there too. The map on this page is anchored on the arena, not the campus.

Which hotel is closest?

The Courtyard Pensacola Downtown at 700 East Chase Street, under a mile and three minutes from the Bay Center, 118 rooms per the Cvent venue directory. It is on UWF's own local hotels and discounts list.

Will Pensacola sell out?

No matched-window availability series has been run, so this page publishes no count. Pensacola is a city with a large hotel base and a university ceremony does not move it. Downtown on a Saturday is the part that fills; the airport corridor rarely does.

Why cancellable only for spring?

Because UWF's registrar page, the only source for the 1 May 2027 date, says its calendar is subject to change. The commencement office has not yet published spring. A non-refundable room against a date the university has flagged is the mistake this page exists to prevent.

Which nights?

For December, the Friday night: undergraduates at 10 a.m., graduate at 2 p.m. For spring, the Friday night, and if UWF repeats 2026's three sittings (9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m.), the Saturday too for an evening sitting. Spring times are not published.

What about the beach?

Navarre, 43 minutes east, has a large tourist base priced for the beach rather than for UWF. Milton, 36 minutes northeast, is nearer the campus than the arena. Neither is needed in a normal year.

Does UWF recommend hotels?

Its procurement office publishes a "Local Hotels and Discounts" page naming properties across the city, including the three above. A general resource, not a commencement block.
