Brown's Commencement Weekend runs May 28-30, 2027, with the University Ceremony on Sunday, May 30 at College Green. Because Commencement always falls on Memorial Day weekend, families compete with general regional holiday travel, not just other Brown families. Brown runs its own on-campus Commencement and Reunion Housing program — real dorm rooms, strictly first-come, first-served.

A holiday weekend, every year

Brown’s Commencement isn’t scheduled around a random spring weekend — it’s always the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. That’s a real, structural difference from most campuses in this project: you’re not just competing with other graduating families for rooms, you’re competing with everyone else in New England who has the same three-day weekend off.

Brown’s own dorm-housing program

If hotels are out of reach, Brown runs a real Commencement and Reunion Housing program in its own residence halls. For the most recently published cycle: $135 a night for a single room, $166 for a double, with a two-night minimum. It’s strictly first-come, first-served — Brown’s own housing office doesn’t sugarcoat it, warning directly that “we may sell out of rooms in certain buildings faster than others.”

A discounted hotel option, if you want a real hotel

The Graduate Providence is one of Brown’s official partner hotels, offering a group rate around $125 a night plus tax under code 2203BROUNI — booked by phone, not online. We didn’t find a published graduation-specific cancellation policy for it beyond the discounted rate itself; call ahead to confirm current terms.

Availability was checked live via Google Hotels for the exact commencement weekend in July 2026; the tool returned prices in a non-US currency by IP geolocation, so we're reporting confirmed inventory and hotel tier rather than a converted dollar figure we can't stand behind. Note that Memorial Day weekend brings general regional holiday travel on top of graduation demand, which this availability snapshot may not fully capture.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Memorial Day weekend matter for booking?

Brown confers degrees every year on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. That means graduating families aren't just competing with each other for rooms — they're competing with everyone else in New England traveling for the long weekend itself.

Does Brown offer on-campus housing instead of a hotel?

Yes — Commencement and Reunion Housing in the dorms, run by Brown's own Residential Life office. For the 2026 cycle: $135/night for a single, $166/night for a double, two-night minimum. It's strictly first-come, first-served, and Brown's own site says some buildings sell out faster than others.

Is there a discounted hotel option?

The Graduate Providence is one of Brown's listed partner hotels, with a group rate around $125/night plus tax using code 2203BROUNI, booked by phone. We didn't find a graduation-specific cancellation policy independently confirmed beyond the discounted rate itself.

When should I book?

As early as possible. Between the Memorial Day weekend overlap and Brown's own first-come-first-served on-campus housing, waiting doesn't work in your favor from either direction.
