Austin’s hotel market is genuinely deep
Unlike most campuses in this project, the University of Texas at Austin doesn’t sit in an isolated town with a handful of ring options — Austin, TX is a major metro. Austin is a major metro, and its suburbs have real, independent hotel markets of their own — not overflow valves built specifically for graduation weekend.
What we actually checked
Live availability, via Google Hotels, for the exact May 7-9, 2027 weekend, checked in July 2026:
- Round Rock — 22 minutes, 1,801 results, no sold-out signals.
- Georgetown — 35 minutes, 1,953 results, no sold-out signals, comparable depth to Round Rock.
- San Marcos — 35 minutes, 172 results, no sold-out signals but the thinnest of the three — book it earlier if you pick it.
We couldn’t convert the tool’s prices out of the non-US currency it returned by IP geolocation, so we’re reporting confirmed inventory and hotel tier rather than a dollar figure we can’t stand behind.
Why this “ring” reads differently from the rest of this project
Elsewhere, the ring exists because the epicenter town is remote and genuinely running out of rooms. Around UT Austin, the honest read is narrower: the one hotel with real on-campus proximity moves early, but the broader Austin-metro market — including these three suburbs — has real depth. If price or on-campus proximity isn’t your top priority, these three suburbs give you more room to choose from, not less.
