Connecticut College's 109th Commencement is Sunday 23 May 2027, confirmed on the college's own 2026-2027 academic calendar. Two things about it decide your booking. First, the same calendar puts SENIOR MOVE-OUT on that same Sunday, ending at 6 p.m., so the car is doing two jobs on one day and the room you want is the night before rather than the night after. Second, the college has published NO start time and NO venue for 2027, so you cannot yet tell whether this is a morning or an afternoon commitment. New London is a small coastal market and its two closest fallback towns, Groton and Mystic, do not resolve on our mapping tool, which leaves Norwich at about 20 minutes as the practical ring option.

The date is confirmed. The two facts that shape your day are not.

Sunday 23 May 2027, the 109th Commencement. Connecticut College’s own 2026-2027 academic calendar prints it plainly, ordinal and all.

What the calendar does not give you is a start time, and what the commencement site does not give you is a venue for 2027, because that site is still showing the Class of 2026.

So a family booking today knows the day and not the hour. That sounds minor and is not: a morning ceremony and an afternoon ceremony imply different nights.

Move-out is the same day, and almost nobody plans for it

Here is the detail worth the whole page.

The same academic calendar that carries the ceremony also carries “23 Sunday Senior Move-Out by 6 p.m.”

Commencement and move-out are on one Sunday, with a hard 6 p.m. deadline on the second of them. If your graduate is living on campus, you are not attending a ceremony and then driving home. You are attending a ceremony, emptying a room and driving home, in whatever remains of a Sunday afternoon.

Three consequences follow:

  • The night you need is the Saturday, not the Sunday. You want to arrive rested and with an empty vehicle, not to drive in on the morning of a day that ends with a loaded car.
  • Bring the bigger car, or plan two trips. This is a decision made weeks ahead, not on the day.
  • Parking is doing double duty. Ceremony parking and move-out access are the same campus, the same afternoon, the same few thousand people.

For comparison, the calendar closes the residence halls to non-graduating students on Tuesday 18 May at 5 p.m., five days earlier. Seniors are the last people on campus, which is why the whole thing compresses into that Sunday.

A small market, and the honest version of the scarcity evidence

New London is a small coastal city. Our mapping tool will not resolve Groton or Mystic, the two closest fallback towns, despite repeated attempts, which leaves Norwich at about 20 minutes inland as the only ring option we can stand behind.

There is one piece of hard, named evidence about this market, and it needs its provenance stated because it would be misleading otherwise.

NBC Connecticut quoted Jocelyn Hawley, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hilton Garden Inn in Groton, confirming that her hotel sold out the night before a past commencement at the academy across Mohegan Avenue.

That is a real, on-record sellout in this market. It is not a measurement of Connecticut College’s own weekend and this page does not present it as one. What it tells you is something about capacity: a single ceremony at one small institution was enough to fill a hotel in the next town. In a market that thin, that is the useful signal.

No named property has been confirmed sold out for a Connecticut College commencement. That is why this cluster is graded elevated rather than high, and why the argument here rests on structure rather than on a headline.

Reunion Weekend, for anyone booking further out

The same calendar carries Reunion Weekend, Friday 4 to Sunday 6 June 2027.

It sits a fortnight after Commencement, so it does not compound the graduation weekend. It is worth knowing about only if your travel window is wide enough to overlap it, because it is a second draw on the same small hotel base.

What we checked, and what we could not

The commencement date and its ordinal, the senior move-out deadline, the residence-hall closing date and Reunion Weekend all come from Connecticut College’s own 2026-2027 academic calendar, read on 18 August 2026. Weekdays were checked independently: 23 May 2027 is a Sunday, and 4 to 6 June 2027 is a Friday to Sunday.

Not published for 2027: the ceremony start time, the venue, ticket or guest limits, and any parking or accessibility arrangement.

Not measured: hotel availability. The round is nine months out, and a single reading at that range is one uncontrolled observation rather than a measurement. A live availability check could not be completed for this market at all.

A note on this page’s history. Until 18 August 2026 New London was covered as a single combined cluster with the neighbouring academy. That cluster has been split so each institution has its own pages, and the New London research now lives here. The old URLs redirect to this page.

Frequently asked questions

When is Connecticut College's 2027 commencement?

Sunday 23 May 2027. The college's 2026-2027 academic calendar prints "23 Sunday One hundred and ninth (109th) Commencement". We checked the weekday independently and 23 May 2027 is a Sunday.

What time does it start?

Not published for 2027. That is a real gap rather than something we failed to find: the academic calendar gives the date only, and the commencement site is still showing the Class of 2026.

Where is it held?

Not published for 2027 either. The 2026 ceremony was on Tempel Green, but the page naming it is on the Class of 2026 cycle, so we are not carrying it forward as a 2027 fact.

Why does senior move-out matter to me?

Because it is the same day. The calendar puts "Senior Move-Out by 6 p.m." on Sunday 23 May, the day of the ceremony. If you are both attending a commencement and emptying a room, the vehicle, the timing and the parking are one problem rather than two, and the night you need is the Saturday.

When do the residence halls close?

For non-graduating students, Tuesday 18 May 2027 at 5 p.m. Seniors stay until move-out on the Sunday. That gap is why the campus is quieter in the run-up than you might expect.

Is there anything else on in the same season?

Two things. Connecticut College's own Reunion Weekend is Friday 4 to Sunday 6 June 2027, a fortnight after Commencement, so it does not compound the graduation weekend but it is a second draw on the same small market. And the academy across Mohegan Avenue holds its own commencement season, which is part of why New London is tighter than its size suggests.
