OU's next commencement is SUNDAY 20 DECEMBER 2026 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman: three ceremonies, at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and your graduate's college decides which. Arts and Sciences has the 10 a.m. ceremony to itself; Fine Arts, Business, Professional and Continuing Studies, Education and Architecture share 2:30; Nursing, Public Health, Engineering, Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, Journalism, Earth and Energy and the health campus graduate students walk at 7. For spring, the registrar's 2026-2027 calendar lists the commencement weekend as Friday 14 to Sunday 16 May 2027, but OU has not published the ceremony schedule, and last May's ceremonies ran Tuesday to Friday, so hold refundable nights around that weekend rather than booking firm. Metal detectors and a clear bag policy apply at every ceremony.

December comes first, and it is one Sunday

OU’s next commencement is Sunday 20 December 2026, three ceremonies at the Lloyd Noble Center, 2900 S Jenkins Ave, Norman.

When Colleges
Sun 20 Dec, 10 a.m. Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences
Sun 20 Dec, 2:30 p.m. Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts; Michael F. Price College of Business; Professional and Continuing Studies; Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education; Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture
Sun 20 Dec, 7 p.m. Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing; Hudson College of Public Health; health campus students from the Graduate College; Gallogly College of Engineering; Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences; Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication; Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy

A Sunday ceremony makes Saturday 19 December the night to book, and a 7 p.m. ceremony, which runs into the evening, makes the Sunday night worth holding too for anyone not driving home the same evening.

May 2027 is a weekend on the calendar, not yet a schedule

OU’s commencement office has not published the May 2027 ceremonies. What exists is one line in the registrar’s 2026-2027 academic calendar, a “Commencement weekend” row that gives 14 to 16 May 2027, Friday to Sunday, for spring.

We are treating that as a planning window rather than a schedule, for two reasons, both from OU’s own documents.

  • The same row is a day out for December. It gives the fall commencement weekend as 19 December, while the ceremonies OU actually published are all on Sunday 20 December.
  • Last May did not fit a weekend. The May 2026 round opened on a Tuesday evening and ran to Friday, college by college.

So hold refundable nights around 14 to 16 May 2027, and release what you do not need once OU publishes the May ceremony page. Spring classes end on Friday 7 May and finals on Friday 14 May.

The 2026 round, as shape rather than schedule

Useful for one reason: it shows that at Oklahoma your college decides your day and your hour, and that a spring round can run most of a week rather than a weekend.

When Colleges
Tue 12 May, 7 p.m. Pharmacy; Dentistry
Thu 14 May, 10 a.m. Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing
Thu 14 May, 2:30 p.m. Medicine
Thu 14 May, 7 p.m. Allied Health; Hudson College of Public Health; Health Campus students from the Graduate College
Fri 15 May, 2:30 p.m. Michael F. Price College of Business
Fri 15 May, 7 p.m. Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences; Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts; Professional and Continuing Studies

All at the Lloyd Noble Center. A Tuesday-evening ceremony is a real possibility at OU, and a family with graduates in two colleges can be in Norman for four days, because Pharmacy on the Tuesday and Arts and Sciences on the Friday were the same round. None of those hours is carried into 2027.

Getting in, when the day comes

OU publishes these as standing policy rather than per round:

  • A carry-in and clear bag policy applies, and OU asks guests to allow extra time for metal detector screening on entry.
  • Accessible services are available for guests needing wheelchair access, sign language interpretation, or assistance with limited mobility. These are arranged in advance rather than on the day.

Specific bag dimensions, door opening times and any guest limit are not published in a form we could quote, so they are not stated here.

What we checked

OU’s commencement site, its December 2026 ceremony page and the registrar’s 2026-2027 academic calendar PDF were read on 13 October 2026; the PDF’s columns were read by position, not from flattened text. 20 December 2026 is a Sunday, and 14 May 2027 a Friday. The May 2026 schedule was read on 18 August 2026.

Not published: the May 2027 ceremony times and college assignments, any 2027 venue, ticket or guest limits, and door times for either round.

Frequently asked questions

When is OU's next commencement?

Sunday 20 December 2026, at the Lloyd Noble Center: 10 a.m. for the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences; 2:30 p.m. for Fine Arts, Price Business, Professional and Continuing Studies, Rainbolt Education and Gibbs Architecture; 7 p.m. for Ziegler Nursing, Hudson Public Health, health campus students from the Graduate College, Gallogly Engineering, Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, Gaylord Journalism and Mewbourne Earth and Energy.

When is OU's May 2027 commencement?

The registrar's 2026-2027 academic calendar lists the spring commencement weekend as 14 to 16 May 2027, a Friday to a Sunday. OU's commencement office has not yet published the ceremonies themselves, so there are no times or college assignments. Treat the weekend as the registrar's planning window: the same calendar row gives the December weekend as 19 December, while the ceremonies OU published are on Sunday 20 December.

Why do you not treat 14 to 16 May as fixed?

Because last May's round did not fit a weekend. May 2026 opened on Tuesday 12 May at 7 p.m. with Pharmacy and Dentistry and ran to Friday 15 May, college by college. If OU repeats that shape, some colleges could walk before the 14th. Hold refundable nights and confirm once OU publishes the May ceremony page.

Does OU run one ceremony or several?

Several, by college, and your graduate's college decides the day and the hour. December 2026 has three on one Sunday. May 2026 had six across four days: Tuesday 12 May at 7 p.m. (Pharmacy, Dentistry), Thursday 14 May at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Nursing, Medicine, Allied Health with Public Health), and Friday 15 May at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Price Business, then Arts and Sciences with Fine Arts and Professional and Continuing Studies).

What should we do now?

For December, book: the date, the times and the colleges are all out, and a Sunday ceremony makes Saturday the night that matters. For May, hold refundable nights around 14 to 16 May and release what you do not need once OU publishes. Norman empties into Oklahoma City when it fills, and departments often know their slot before the university publishes centrally, so ask your graduate's college.

What are the venue rules?

OU publishes these as standing policy rather than per round. Expect a carry-in and clear bag policy, and metal detector screening on entry, and OU asks guests to allow extra time for it. Accessible services are available for guests needing wheelchair access, sign language interpretation or assistance with limited mobility, arranged in advance.
