Bowdoin Homecoming runs Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026 and registration opened on 6 August. The lodging fact that matters is one Bowdoin states outright: "During Homecoming on-campus housing is not available since students are living on campus." So unlike Reunion, there is no campus bed to fall back on, and a live check found just 8 bookable properties in Brunswick for that weekend. Freeport is sixteen minutes away with more rooms than Brunswick, and Portland at thirty minutes has the real depth. This is a bigger year than most for the class of 1977, whose 50th reunion kicks off across the weekend alongside the classes of 1978 and 1979.

No campus beds, and eight hotels

Bowdoin’s homecoming has one lodging fact that decides everything else, and the college states it without hedging:

“During Homecoming on-campus housing is not available since students are living on campus.”

That is worth pausing on, because it is the opposite of Reunion. Reunion happens in June once the students have gone, and Bowdoin can put alumni in the dorms. Homecoming happens in term time, so it cannot. Every single visitor that weekend is competing for hotel rooms, and a live check on 12 August 2026 found 8 bookable properties in Brunswick for those nights.

Homecoming runs Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026. Registration opened on Thursday 6 August, so it is already live.

Freeport is closer than it looks, and bigger than Brunswick

The same counting problem as Bowdoin’s graduation weekend, and the same answer.

Where Drive Bookable properties
Brunswick on campus 8
Freeport, ME 16 min 12
Bath, ME 18 min 4
Portland, ME 30 min 43

Freeport is the surprise: sixteen minutes up I-295 and holding more rooms than the town the college is in. It is an outlet-shopping town with a tourist hotel base of its own, so its supply has nothing to do with Bowdoin’s calendar.

Portland, at thirty minutes, is where the depth actually is.

Late September in Maine is not the Memorial Day crush that Bowdoin’s graduation runs into, so this is a more forgiving weekend than the commencement one. It is still eight hotels.

2026 brings a fiftieth back

Homecoming is open to the whole Bowdoin community rather than to reunion classes only, but this year has a heavier draw than most.

The Class of 1977 marks its 50th, with a kickoff reception and dinner shared with the classes of 1978 and 1979. Fiftieth reunions bring back people who have not been to campus in decades, usually with partners, sometimes with grown children, and almost always for two nights rather than one.

Three of the weekend’s events carry their own separate registration rather than sitting under the general one: that 1977 kickoff, the Football Kickoff Event, and the men’s soccer post-game tailgate.

Practical notes

There is no formal check-in. Bowdoin runs a Welcome Center in Lancaster Lounge at Moulton Union with information and weekend materials, and that is the sensible first stop.

The schedule lives in an app. Bowdoin publishes the full weekend schedule through the Bowdoin app, where you search for the “Homecoming 2026” guide and download it. Printed schedules are available once you are on campus. Because the schedule is served through that app rather than as a web page, individual event times are not reproduced here.

Preregistration is requested for several events even where they are free, which helps the college plan numbers. Cancellations go through the Office of Alumni Relations on 207-725-3266 or alumni@bowdoin.edu.

Getting online and charged. Guest wifi is “Bowdoin-Guest”, and there are electric vehicle charging stations on campus.

Accessibility. Bowdoin asks that access needs be noted on your registration or raised with the Office of Alumni Relations directly, and is candid that not all areas of campus are fully accessible.

What is not established

Individual event times, because Bowdoin distributes the schedule through its Guidebook app rather than as a published web page, and this site does not reproduce times it has not read at source. No kickoff time for the football game is stated here for the same reason.

Bowdoin refers to “a list of area lodging and discounts available to Bowdoin alumni”. That list exists and is worth asking the Office of Alumni Relations for, but the discounts themselves were not verified here and no rate is quoted.

No named Brunswick property was confirmed sold out for the weekend; the eight-property figure is total bookable supply on the date checked, not a sellout claim.

Planning for graduation instead? Bowdoin’s commencement is always the Saturday before Memorial Day, which is a much harder weekend than this one. The where to stay page covers 29 May 2027.

Frequently asked questions

When is Bowdoin Homecoming 2026?

Friday 25 September to Sunday 27 September 2026, on campus in Brunswick. Bowdoin's own FAQ gives those dates and says the whole Bowdoin community and their guests are welcome, so it is not restricted to reunion classes.

Can we stay on campus?

No. Bowdoin is explicit: "During Homecoming on-campus housing is not available since students are living on campus." That is different from Reunion, which happens after the students have left, and it means every homecoming visitor is competing for the same small pool of hotel rooms.

How many hotels are there?

A live check for the homecoming weekend returned 8 bookable properties in Brunswick. Freeport, sixteen minutes away, has more than Brunswick does, and Portland at thirty minutes has the real depth. The ladder on this page checks all of them against your dates.

Do I need to register?

Preregistration is requested for several events, and registration opened on Thursday 6 August. A few things have their own separate sign-up: the Class of 1977 50th Reunion kickoff, the reception and dinner for the classes of 1977, 1978 and 1979, the Football Kickoff Event, and the men's soccer post-game tailgate.

Where do we go when we arrive?

There is no formal check-in, but Bowdoin runs a Welcome Center in Lancaster Lounge at Moulton Union with information and materials for the weekend. Printed schedules are available on campus, and the full schedule lives in the Bowdoin app under the "Homecoming 2026" guide.

What makes 2026 a bigger year?

The Class of 1977 marks its 50th, with a kickoff reception and dinner shared with the classes of 1978 and 1979. Fiftieth reunions reliably bring back people who have not returned in years, and they tend to bring partners and family with them, which is what turns a normal homecoming weekend into a tight one for rooms.
