Two Fridays, both confirmed

Fall Commencement: Friday 11 December 2026. Winter Commencement: Friday 16 April 2027.

Both come straight from the registrar’s 2026-2027 academic dates page, and both weekdays were cross-checked against the calendar independently.

That check is not a formality on this cluster. A Tuesday 8 December date circulates for the Fall ceremony and does not match this university’s long-standing Friday pattern. Check the weekday against a calendar before you book: a date can be wrong while everything written around it sounds right.

There is a third entry on the same calendar, a Spring 2027 graduation date in June. It is a conferral date with no ceremony. On a quick read it looks like a third commencement, and it is not one.

What the registrar does not publish

This section is longer than usual, because the gap is.

BYU-Hawaii publishes the day for each round and essentially nothing else. No ceremony time. No venue. No ticket policy, no doors time, no guest limit, no parking guidance.

The Cannon Activities Center hosted the most recent confirmed ceremony and is carried on this cluster as the standing venue. It is not named by the registrar for either upcoming round, so this page will not print it as confirmed.

The missing start time matters more here than it would elsewhere. Laie has two bookable properties, and the realistic fallbacks are twelve minutes north in Kahuku or an hour away in Honolulu. A family basing itself in Honolulu cannot sensibly plan a departure without knowing whether the ceremony is at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. Check the registrar’s page again before booking flights.

Two dates from the calendar that do matter

Commencement Participation Deadline, Fall 2026: Tuesday 6 October.

This is the point at which a graduate confirms they intend to walk, and it sits more than two months before the ceremony. Families booking travel around a graduate who has not yet confirmed participation are booking on an assumption, and the deadline is early enough that it can be resolved first.

Final Exam Days: Monday 7 to Thursday 10 December.

Exams end on the Thursday, and commencement is the Friday. There is no buffer at all. Students are sitting papers the day before they graduate, which is worth knowing if you were expecting your graduate to be free to collect you from the airport.

Grades are not due until 17 December, well after everyone has gone home.

No campus overflow

BYU-Hawaii’s housing operation states that it does not provide guest housing.

Several clusters on this site rely on the opposite: Dartmouth, Yale, Brown and Syracuse all open rooms to visiting families for commencement weekend, which relieves a market that could not otherwise absorb the demand. Laie has no such release valve, and it has two bookable properties.

That is the whole reason the where to stay page leads on Kahuku rather than on Laie.

Absent rather than estimated

Not published at the time of writing: the ceremony time and venue for either round, any ticket or guest policy, doors times, parking arrangements, and whether the ceremony is livestreamed.

Nothing has been carried across from a previous year to fill those gaps. Where this page names the Cannon Activities Center, it says why and at what standing.

One note for anyone re-checking this cluster: the registrar reorganised its site at some point before August 2026, and the old registrar.byuh.edu/commencement URL now returns a 404. The working source is the 2026-2027 academic dates page linked above.
