Cal Poly's own commencement site still showed the June season when we checked, so do not plan from last year. The structure, as run in 2026: SIX ceremonies at Alex G. Spanos Stadium at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. across two days, split by college, each lasting about two to two and a half hours. Graduates may claim UP TO 10 GUEST TICKETS including their own. Gates open 90 minutes before, and a clear bag policy applies.

The 2027 date is three weeks earlier than 2026
Leading with this because it is the mistake available here, and it is an expensive one.
2026: 13 and 14 June. 2027: 21 to 23 May.
The registrar’s academic calendar is unambiguous: “May 21, 22-23 | Friday | Saturday - Sunday | Commencement.”
The reason sits in the same calendar. It now describes a 15-week term with Spring 2027 beginning on 25 January, where the 2026 calendar was quarter-based and pushed commencement into mid-June. This page does not speculate past what the registrar publishes, but the consequence is plain: last year’s date is not a guide to this year’s.
Making it worse, Cal Poly’s own commencement site still described the June 2026 ceremonies when we checked on 12 August 2026. The page most families will find first is the one that will mislead them.
Six ceremonies, and yours is one of them
Cal Poly does not hold a single graduation. It holds six, at Alex G. Spanos Stadium, at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. across two ceremony days, split by college.
The 2026 split, which is the best available guide until Cal Poly posts 2027:

Each runs approximately two to two and a half hours.
So an Agriculture family and a Liberal Arts family are on different days at opposite ends of the clock. Establish the ceremony before booking the nights, because in a market where hotels are reported selling out a year ahead, changing your mind later is not cheap.
Ten tickets, which is unusually generous
Graduates may claim up to 10 guest tickets, and Cal Poly counts the graduate’s own entrance ticket within that ten.
That is at the generous end of everything covered on this site, where the common allocation runs from three to eight and one university caps it at four in bad weather. It also has a direct lodging consequence: a ten-person allowance means larger travelling parties and more rooms, in a town with 17 bookable properties.
Gates, timing and the bag rule
Gates open 90 minutes before each ceremony, and graduates are asked to arrive 90 minutes before too. With a 8:30 a.m. ceremony, that is a 7:00 a.m. gate.
Clear bag policy. One clear bag or a small clutch per person: a 12 by 6 by 12 inch clear bag, a 12 by 12 gallon Ziploc, or a 4.5 by 8.5 inch clutch.
Spanos Stadium is outdoors. A 4:30 p.m. ceremony on the Central Coast in late May is pleasant; an 8:30 a.m. one can be cold and foggy, and the middle one can be hot. Dress for the slot rather than for the season.
What is not established
Cal Poly had not published its 2027 ceremony times, college assignments or guest-ticket allocation when we checked, because its commencement site still described June 2026. Every structural detail on this page is the 2026 arrangement and is labelled as such.
Also not published for 2027: parking arrangements, accessibility provision, whether ceremonies are livestreamed, and any rain or heat plan for an outdoor stadium.
