Cheney is a town of about 13,000 with a single chain hotel, the 121-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites on Betz Road, and an independent motel on B Street. That is the entire local inventory. Spokane is 17 miles and 26 minutes by road, with the airport and a metro hotel base; Airway Heights, between the two, has a casino-resort cluster 25 minutes out. A town with one hotel and a city next door
Cheney is small, about 13,000 people on the plateau southwest of Spokane, and its chain hotel inventory is one building: the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 111 Betz Road, 121 rooms over three floors per HotelGuides, six minutes from the Pavilion. The Willow Springs Motel on B Street is closer, about a mile, an independent with no published room count and a website that did not load when this page was built.
That is the whole local list. Everything else is on the road to Spokane. The Super 8 West Spokane on I-90 has 80 rooms and is the nearest budget property on the city side, roughly 25 minutes out.
None of the three publishes a commencement-specific minimum stay, prepayment or cancellation rule, and none is claimed here. EWU does not publish a hotel list for commencement on the pages read.
Five ceremonies, so five different nights
EWU does not hold one big ceremony. The June page lists five college ceremonies over Friday 11 and Saturday 12 June 2027, all in the Pavilion at Reese Court:
Friday 11 June: 9:00am Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; 1:00pm Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with Health Science and Public Health; 5:00pm Business and Professional Accounting.
Saturday 12 June: 9:00am Education, Interdisciplinary Studies and Organizational Leadership; 1:00pm Psychology and Social Work.
Main doors open 75 minutes before each. A family with a 9:00am Friday graduate needs the Thursday night in or near Cheney. A family with a Saturday 1:00pm graduate can sleep in Spokane and drive 26 minutes that morning. A family with two graduates in different colleges may need both nights. Work out the hour before the hotel.
There is also a CHSPH Semester Programs Ceremony on Friday 30 April 2027 at 9:30 AM, same venue, a separate event for that college’s semester programs.
The ring is really one city
Airway Heights, 25 minutes, sits on the Cheney-Spokane road with a casino-resort cluster and chain hotels. Spokane, 26 minutes and 17 miles, has the airport and the hotel base of a metro of about half a million, and is where most out-of-town families will end up. Liberty Lake, 45 minutes, and Post Falls, Idaho, 53 minutes, are I-90 exits east of Spokane with their own interstate hotels, useful only if the city is full.

No tickets, eight guests, bag search
EWU’s FAQ: “Tickets are not required but you will be limited to 8 guests per graduate. Seating and parking will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.” All guests are subject to a bag search; food, drink, strollers and purses are to be left in the car. No availability count, because none was measured. No graduate count, because the commencement pages do not publish one. No room count for the Willow Springs, because none was confirmed. No December ceremony: EWU’s own line is that the June ceremonies honor graduates from Fall 2026 through Summer 2027, and no fall date is listed anywhere read.
