Radford runs graduate hooding on Friday 30 April 2027 in the Dedmon Center arena and the undergraduate ceremony on Saturday 1 May outdoors on Moffett Lawn, per the registrar's calendar, with the same Friday-Saturday shape on 11 and 12 December 2026. Times for 2027 are not posted; in 2026 the Friday ran 5 to 7 p.m. and the Saturday 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Radford is a city of 16,000, and its hotels are three on the Tyler Avenue corridor a mile or two from campus: the Highlander with 124 rooms, the Quality Inn with 104 and the La Quinta with 53, per HotelGuides. Christiansburg is 14 minutes east at the I-81 interchange, Blacksburg 30 minutes, Roanoke an hour. No tickets are required and there is no limit on guests for the spring ceremony, and the FAQ warns of "significant traffic, parking limitations, road closures and pedestrian congestion" on the Saturday. Book the Friday night on Tyler Avenue early.

One corridor, three hotels, about 280 rooms
Radford’s hotels sit on Tyler Avenue, the road that runs from campus out toward I-81. Nearest is The Highlander Hotel, 604 Tyler Avenue, a mile and three minutes from the Dedmon Center, 124 rooms over six floors per HotelGuides, a Hilton-affiliated full-service hotel; its own website did not resolve when this page was built. A mile further out the La Quinta Inn, 1450 Tyler Avenue, has 53 rooms, and across the road the Quality Inn Radford-West Blacksburg, 1501 Tyler Avenue, has 104 rooms, both per HotelGuides.
That is the city’s chain inventory: roughly 280 rooms. None of the three publishes a commencement-specific minimum stay, prepayment or cancellation rule, and none is claimed here. Radford does not publish a hotel list on the commencement pages read.
Friday evening, Saturday morning
The registrar’s 2026-2027 calendar splits commencement across two days: “Graduate Hooding & Commencement Ceremony 4/30 (F)” and “Undergraduate Spring Commencement Ceremony 5/1 (Sa)”. Both weekdays check. December has the same shape, 11 and 12 December 2026.
Times for 2027 are not posted. The schedule page still described Spring 2026: the graduate hooding ran 5 to 7 p.m. on the Friday in the Dedmon Center arena, the undergraduate ceremony 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Saturday on Moffett Lawn. If 2027 follows, every family needs the Friday night; a graduate student’s family should be in town by late afternoon, and a family with a Friday hooding and a Saturday undergraduate needs Friday and may want Thursday.
The FAQ adds a warning aimed at students that applies to guests too: Saturday move-out is “strongly discouraged due to significant traffic, parking limitations, road closures and pedestrian congestion across campus.” A hotel on Tyler Avenue means arriving on foot or a short drive rather than through that.
No tickets, no limit, and a weather plan that changes the hour
“No tickets are required for the spring ceremony.” “There is no limit on guest attendance for the spring ceremony.” Both from the FAQ, read on 20 September 2026. The Saturday ceremony is outdoors and “will proceed in most weather conditions, including rain or cold temperatures.” Severe weather moves it inside as three ceremonies at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Dedmon Center, which can turn a 10 a.m. walk into a 5 p.m. one; the ceremony weekend logistics page has the plan in full.
The ring is short and deep
Christiansburg, 14 minutes east at the I-81 interchange, has a chain hotel cluster shared with Blacksburg, 30 minutes, which is Virginia Tech’s town and has its own Virginia Tech cluster on this site; check Tech’s calendar for a clash before assuming Blacksburg is empty. Salem, 47 minutes, and Roanoke, an hour, are the metro with the airport.
Drive times are off-peak road routes computed on 20 September 2026, not measured journeys. No availability series has been run for any of them.
December: same shape, fewer details
Graduate hooding on Friday 11 December 2026 and undergraduate winter commencement on Saturday 12 December, per the calendar. The schedule page had not posted the December round when read, so venues and times are not stated here. Plan on the Friday night.
Not claimed here
No availability count, because none was measured. No graduate count, because Radford does not publish one on the pages read. No 2027 ceremony times, because they are not posted yet. No December venues, for the same reason.

Its own website did not resolve on 2026-09-20. No commencement-specific minimum stay, prepayment or cancellation policy was found, and none is claimed. - Quality Inn Radford-West Blacksburg I-81: 1501 Tyler Avenue, across the road from the La Quinta. 104 rooms over two floors per HotelGuides. Its address did not geocode to a lodging point, so it carries no pin and no computed drive time; it is on the same corridor as the La Quinta. No commencement-specific policy was found.

Frequently asked questions
Which hotel is closest to campus?
The Highlander Hotel at 604 Tyler Avenue, about a mile and three minutes from the Dedmon Center, 124 rooms over six floors per HotelGuides. The La Quinta at 1450 Tyler Avenue (53 rooms) and the Quality Inn at 1501 Tyler Avenue (104 rooms) face each other a mile further out.
Will Radford sell out?
No matched-window availability series has been run for Radford, so this page publishes no count, and no university or hotel statement about sell-outs was found. Structurally, three hotels and an outdoor ceremony with no guest limit is a squeeze on the corridor, not on the region: Christiansburg and Blacksburg are 14 to 30 minutes away.
Which nights do we need?
The Friday night for an undergraduate whose ceremony is Saturday morning (10 a.m. in 2026). A graduate student's family attending the Friday hooding (5 to 7 p.m. in 2026) also needs the Friday night and should arrive by late afternoon. Families with both need Friday and possibly Thursday. 2027 times are not yet published.
Where is the overflow?
Christiansburg, 14 minutes east at the I-81 interchange, shares a chain hotel cluster with Blacksburg, 30 minutes, which is Virginia Tech's town and has this site's own cluster. Salem, 47 minutes, and Roanoke, an hour, are the metro with the airport.
Do we need tickets?
No. "No tickets are required for the spring ceremony" and "There is no limit on guest attendance for the spring ceremony," per Radford's commencement FAQ, read on 20 September 2026.
What if it rains on Saturday?
The undergraduate ceremony on Moffett Lawn "will proceed in most weather conditions, including rain or cold temperatures." Severe weather moves it into the Dedmon Center arena as three ceremonies starting at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., which changes which hour your graduate walks; the ceremony weekend logistics page has the plan.
What about December?
Graduate hooding on Friday 11 December 2026 and undergraduate winter commencement on Saturday 12 December, per the calendar. Venues and times for December were not published at this check. Plan on the Friday night.
