You will find a room, so let us start there
St. Cloud is a city of roughly 70,000 with a genuine hotel cluster along Division Street and the Highway 15 corridor, a short drive from campus. There is no on-campus hotel, but there is no shortage either.
This is the best-supplied market of any campus on this site. Sartell sits six miles away and is contiguous with St. Cloud rather than a separate town, and the Twin Cities metro is 64 miles down I-94. For comparison, our Angelo State cluster has nothing at all within 82 miles.
We say that plainly because the alternative, implying urgency that does not exist, would be the fastest way to lose your trust on a page whose whole purpose is telling you what is actually true.
The booking decision is about which day, not whether
St. Cloud State splits Fall 2026 by degree level:
- Thursday 10 December, graduate students
- Friday 11 December, undergraduates
Separate days, not two sittings of one day. So:
- One graduate candidate → the Thursday night
- One undergraduate candidate → the Friday night
- One of each → both nights, with no way to compress it
Which side of each day you need depends on ceremony times, and those are not published. St. Cloud State says they appear in early November, which at least tells you when to look.
Book refundable, not early
This is genuinely different advice from what this site gives at its tighter campuses, and it comes from the market rather than the template.
Central Minnesota in mid-December can be clear or it can put snow and ice across I-94. A ceremony with a fixed start time and only one sitting for your degree level means you cannot leave two hours later and catch the next one.
So the risk worth insuring against is weather, not availability. A refundable rate lets you watch a real forecast in the days beforehand and cancel if the roads look fine. Booking six months early against a sellout that is not coming buys you nothing.
If you are driving up from the metro, that is the whole calculation.
Sartell is not a fallback
Worth being clear, because a six-mile ring entry looks odd next to the hour-long drives on other pages in this project. Sartell is the next municipality along, contiguous with St. Cloud’s built-up area. If a Sartell hotel suits you on price or type, book it without feeling you have compromised on location.
The first genuinely separate market is Little Falls at 31 miles, and you are unlikely to need it.
The gaps, named
No room count for the St. Cloud cluster and no graduating-class figure from the university, so there is no arithmetic here of the kind our Kansas State and Binghamton pages carry. Neither was published anywhere we could cite, and no named St. Cloud property has been confirmed sold out for a commencement.
In a market with this much depth those gaps matter less than they would elsewhere, but they are gaps, and naming them is the point.
