One line per round, on the academic calendar

Tennessee Tech’s academic calendar is where both dates live, and each is a single line.

“Friday, May 7: Commencement” for Spring 2027. “Friday, December 11: Commencement” for Fall 2026.

7 May 2027 is a Friday. 11 December 2026 is a Friday. The calendar’s own weekday labels agree with its dates, which is the check that catches a year copied wrong, and both passed.

The same calendar puts Spring 2027 finals at Monday to Thursday, 3 to 6 May. Commencement is the morning after exams end.

What a Tech commencement day looks like, from 2026

The calendar gives the date; Tech’s commencement page, as it stood for the Spring 2026 round, gave the shape. Two sittings on the one Friday at the Hooper Eblen Center: 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., with colleges assigned to each. Tech recognised more than 1,600 graduates that day and called it the largest spring commencement in university history.

That page has since rotated to the Fall 2026 round, which it also places at the Hooper Eblen Center on 11 December. Nothing on it yet describes May 2027.

So the 2026 shape is offered as pattern only. If it repeats, the sitting your graduate is assigned to decides whether the Friday night matters: a 9 a.m. sitting is done by lunch, a 2 p.m. one runs into the late afternoon and many families stay.

What this page does not carry forward

The venue, for May 2027. Hooper Eblen has hosted the last two rounds and a reasonable person would expect a third. This site does not publish expectations about buildings; it publishes what the university has stated, and for May 2027 the university has stated a date.

The sittings and the college split, for the same reason.

The 1,600 figure as a forecast. Tech’s own release framed Spring 2026 as unusually large. It is used here for scale, nothing more.

December is closer than it looks

The Fall 2026 round is Friday 11 December 2026. The commencement page already places it at the Hooper Eblen Center; sittings and the college split were not yet posted at build. If that is your round, the hotel picture is the same as May’s with the holidays on top, and the Thursday night is the one to secure now.

The hotels are at the interstate, not the campus

Cookeville’s hotel row is at the I-40 exits on the south side of town, about three miles and eight minutes from campus. The nearest chain property has 102 rooms; Tech points guests to the visitors bureau list rather than naming anything. That, and the ring along I-40, is on the where to stay page.
