A weekend with a time on it

Most parents’ weekends are published as a date range and nothing else, which leaves families guessing about which nights they actually need. UC Davis has done better than that this year.

Parent & Family Weekend 2026 runs Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November, and the fixed point inside it is the football game: Utah Tech at 4 p.m. on Saturday 7 November, at UC Davis Health Stadium. That kickoff time comes from UC Davis’s own athletics schedule, which also lists Faculty and Staff Appreciation, Band Day and the Doxie Derby against the same fixture. The Saturday afternoon is where the weekend concentrates.

A 4 p.m. start is the detail that decides your nights. The game will finish in the early evening, and for a family that has driven in from the Bay Area or further, that is the wrong time to start driving home. Friday and Saturday nights are the honest booking, with a Sunday morning departure. That is the window this page passes to the map.

Beyond the game, UC Davis lists a Mondavi Center show, sessions with your student’s academic college, eating on campus and time in downtown Davis. None of those carry published times yet.

The university tells you where to stay, which is rare

Universities almost never give lodging advice on the record. UC Davis does, on this exact page, and it is worth quoting rather than paraphrasing:

“If you are making travel arrangements now, look for hotels in Davis, but Woodland and Dixon areas are also close and sometimes less expensive.”

That is the same shape of advice this site gives for every campus, coming from the university itself. It also tells you something about Davis: a town does not get a recommendation to look one town over unless its own inventory is thin, and Davis has roughly 66,000 people.

The ladder above sorts the realistic options by drive time. Woodland is the near one at about 15 minutes. Sacramento is about 20 and is much the deepest market within reach, which is why UC Davis is willing to hold its June commencement ceremonies there. Dixon appears in the university’s advice but is not in our ladder, and we have not checked its availability to the standard the other two were checked to, so treat it as a lead rather than a recommendation.

One thing worth knowing if you are looking at this weekend and thinking about the year ahead: UC Davis holds its Fall commencement on Saturday 12 December 2026, five weeks later, in the University Credit Union Center on campus. If your student is graduating in December, that is a second trip into the same small hotel market, and the where to stay page covers it.

What is not published yet

The dates and the kickoff are solid, both from UC Davis’s own pages, read on 11 August 2026. The weekday check is ours: 6 November 2026 is a Friday and the 8th a Sunday, which matches the athletics schedule listing the game on Saturday the 7th.

What does not exist yet: a full schedule with times for anything other than the game, the Mondavi Center programme, whether any of the weekend requires registration or tickets, and parking arrangements. UC Davis’s page says to bookmark it for updates, which is a fair signal that the detail is still coming.

A note on the ring figures above. Their drive times are accurate and their booking links are live, but the availability counts beside them were gathered against a commencement weekend rather than a November football Saturday. Use them to judge which market is deeper, not as a forecast for this weekend.
