UConn's spring 2027 commencement runs across two days, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 May, with 9 May named in its own academic calendar as the conferral date for spring 2027 degrees. Ceremonies are on the Storrs campus. UConn splits commencement into many separate ceremonies by school and college rather than holding one university-wide event, so which day and which building applies to you depends on your school, and the 2027 assignments had not been published when we checked on 7 August 2026. One warning worth carrying: a stadium in East Hartford appears in older coverage as the venue. That was a single pandemic year in 2021. Ceremonies returned to Storrs in 2022.

Two days, many ceremonies, one campus

UConn’s spring 2027 commencement runs Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 May, on the Storrs campus.

Its own academic calendar is precise about this: “Sat, May 8-Sun, May 9 Commencement ceremonies”, with Sunday 9 May named separately as the conferral date for spring 2027 degrees. Both weekdays check out against the calendar.

What the calendar does not do is tell you which ceremony is yours. UConn does not hold one university-wide event. It runs a series of separate ceremonies by school and college across the weekend, which in May 2026 meant multiple sittings across several days at Gampel Pavilion and the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, with the Law School under its own tent on a different date altogether.

The detail that decides your travel is not published yet

For a two-day, multi-ceremony commencement, the useful question is never “when is graduation.”

It is which day, which hour and which building your graduate’s school has been assigned. A Saturday morning ceremony and a Sunday afternoon one call for different flights and different nights, and with Storrs holding a single hotel that UConn itself expects to sell out, the difference is not one you can absorb late.

UConn had not published the 2027 school-by-school assignments when we checked on 7 August 2026. That information comes from your graduate’s own school rather than from the central calendar, and chasing it is the highest-value thing you can do before booking anything.

The East Hartford problem

There is a specific and expensive way to get UConn wrong, and it is worth a section of its own.

Search for UConn commencement and you may find Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, in East Hartford, presented as the venue. It was, for exactly one year. UConn moved ceremonies there in 2021 as an outdoor pandemic arrangement, the first time that stadium had hosted a commencement, and moved back to the Storrs campus in 2022.

East Hartford is about 25 miles from Storrs. Those are not two descriptions of the same place, and the lodging decision that follows from each is completely different. Everything on this site for UConn is anchored on Storrs, because that is where the ceremonies are.

What a two-day spread does to the nights

Two nights minimum for most families, and often three.

If your graduate’s ceremony falls on the Saturday, the Friday night is the arrival night for anyone travelling. If it falls on the Sunday, the weekend stretches instead. Families with graduates in different schools can find themselves committed to both days.

The booking window this page passes to the map runs from the Friday night through the Monday morning for that reason, rather than assuming a single night around one ceremony.

What we checked, and what we could not

The dates and the conferral date come from UConn’s own academic calendar, read on 7 August 2026. Both weekdays were cross-checked independently: 8 May 2027 is a Saturday and 9 May is a Sunday, matching the calendar’s own labels. That check exists because a date carried forward from a previous year almost always fails it, and it has caught nine wrong dates on this project.

The multi-ceremony structure and the May 2026 venues come from UConn’s own commencement pages.

This audit closed part of that list. The guest rules ARE published, as standing policy rather than per round, and this page carried none of them:

  • Every guest needs a PHYSICAL ticket. UConn states that photographs of guest tickets will not be accepted for entry, at any venue. A screenshot on a phone will not get someone in.
  • Metal detectors are in use at all ceremonies held in Gampel Pavilion and the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Umbrellas are not allowed into the venues. They are permitted within the exterior perimeter, and you will be asked to leave them outside and collect them afterwards.

Still not established, and each a real absence: the 2027 school-by-school ceremony schedule, the buildings assigned for 2027, start times and any per-graduate ticket allocation. None had been published at audit, so none is carried over from 2026.

One thing about the 2026 shape that is worth holding in mind without treating it as a forecast. UConn ran sixteen ceremonies for the Class of 2026, spread across 9, 10 and 11 May at Gampel Pavilion and the Jorgensen Center, with Law a full week later on 17 May. The registrar’s 2027 calendar prints a two-day span, 8 to 9 May. If the 2026 pattern repeats, that span understates the round, and a law family in particular could be travelling a week after everyone else. We are not publishing 2026’s dates as 2027’s, but a family whose graduate is in Law should ask their school directly rather than trusting the two-day window.

Frequently asked questions

When is UConn's 2027 commencement?

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 May 2027. UConn's academic calendar lists "Sat, May 8-Sun, May 9 Commencement ceremonies" and names 9 May as the conferral date for spring 2027 degrees. We re-read it on 7 August 2026.

Is it one ceremony or several?

Several. UConn runs separate ceremonies by school and college across the weekend rather than a single university-wide event. In May 2026 those ran across multiple days at Gampel Pavilion and the Jorgensen Center, with the Law School under its own tent on a separate date entirely.

Which day and building is my ceremony?

Not published for 2027 as of 7 August 2026. This is the detail that decides your travel, and it comes from your graduate's own school rather than from the academic calendar. Ask before booking, because a Saturday and a Sunday ceremony need different nights.

Where are the ceremonies held?

On the Storrs campus. The specific 2027 buildings were not published when we checked; in May 2026 UConn used Gampel Pavilion and the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, both on campus.

Why do I see a stadium in East Hartford listed as the venue?

Because of 2021. UConn moved ceremonies outdoors to Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field that year, a first for that stadium, and returned to Storrs in 2022. East Hartford is about 25 miles from campus, so this is worth getting right before you book.

How many nights should I plan for?

At least two. With ceremonies spread across a Saturday and a Sunday, and with the only hotel in Storrs expected to sell out, a family attending one ceremony still tends to need the night before and the night of.
