UVM confirms its 2027 Commencement ceremonies are Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May 2027 on University Green, and its future-dates page was updated in July 2026, so this is current rather than carried forward. Two things the dates alone do not tell you. These dates cover THREE kinds of ceremony, undergraduate, Graduate College and Larner College of Medicine, and UVM has not published which falls on which day for 2027, so which of the two days is yours is still open. And the ceremonies are TICKETED: degree candidates reserve up to six guest tickets, with a waitlist for one more that is not guaranteed, and tickets go to the graduate rather than to guests directly.

What’s confirmed
The University of Vermont’s own commencement website confirms 2027 Commencement ceremonies are Saturday-Sunday, May 22-23, 2027, on University Green, taken directly from the university’s official site and covering Undergraduate, Graduate College, and Larner College of Medicine ceremonies.
Where the ceremony happens
University Green, the historic heart of UVM’s campus in Burlington, the site of the all-university ceremony where the president confers degrees.
Six tickets, and a waitlist for a seventh
UVM’s ticketed ceremonies publish their guest allocation, and it is the constraint most worth resolving before anyone books travel.
Degree candidates reserve up to six guest tickets. Graduates themselves, in regalia and participating, do not need one, so the six are all for family.
If six is not enough, there is a waitlist for one additional ticket, and UVM is explicit that waitlist requests are not guaranteed. Approved waitlist tickets must be claimed within 24 hours of the email, so a family counting on a seventh seat needs someone watching their graduate’s inbox.
Tickets are issued to degree candidates only. Guests cannot request them directly and have to get them from their graduate.
Those figures and deadlines are from the most recent published cycle; UVM has not posted the 2027 ticket dates yet.
Three kinds of ceremony across two days
UVM’s two dates are approved for Undergraduate ceremonies, Graduate College ceremonies and Larner College of Medicine ceremonies.
That is three different audiences sharing one weekend, and UVM has not published which falls on which day for 2027. Until it does, the honest position is that the weekend is fixed and your particular day is not, so book both nights or hold refundable.
Other venues to know about
In 2026, college and school-specific ceremonies were held at The Robert E. Miller Expo Centre in nearby Essex Junction, VT, across two designated halls, worth checking closer to the date for the confirmed 2027 breakdown.
20,000 visitors into a small lakefront city
UVM’s own newsroom published the numbers for its most recent ceremony, the 225th Commencement in May 2026: 3,703 undergraduate, graduate and medical students from 45 U.S. states and 36 countries, with over 20,000 family members and friends expected. UVM has not published equivalent figures for 2027, so read these as the scale of a normal UVM commencement rather than a forecast.
The “45 states and 36 countries” part is what matters for a room. This is not a regional crowd that drives in for the morning and leaves. Nearly all of those 20,000 people need somewhere to sleep.
For scale, the Holiday Inn Burlington on Williston Road lists 173 sleeping rooms, and that is a large property by Burlington standards. Twenty thousand visitors against 173 rooms is roughly 116 people per room at that one hotel. Burlington has more hotels than that, and this figure comes from a booking-industry listing rather than the hotel itself, so treat it as indicative rather than exact. The conclusion survives either way: the city’s inventory is small against the weekend it is asked to absorb, and the nearest genuine alternatives are Plattsburgh at 75 minutes and Montreal at 100, the second of which is an international border crossing.
