This page shows the weekend as 22 to 24 May for a different reason, and it is worth being clear about which is which. Yale states that Yale College, the Graduate School and each professional school "schedule events throughout Commencement Weekend", and that those "usually take place on Saturday and Sunday". So the Saturday and Sunday are school events rather than commencement, and they are why most families are already in New Haven before the Monday. Diploma ceremonies, where your graduate is actually named, follow the university ceremony later on the Monday in the residential colleges and at each school.

Yale has not published the per-school 2027 schedule, so which of the Saturday and Sunday events is yours depends on the school. What is already clear is that a family arriving Sunday night for a Monday ceremony misses two days their graduate is probably attending.
The degree ceremony is not the diploma ceremony
Worth separating, because families often assume the big one is the one that matters to them.
Monday’s ceremony on Old Campus is where all university and honorary degrees are formally conferred. It is the ceremonial event.
Yale then states plainly: “Diploma ceremonies follow the university ceremony in all residential colleges and at each school.” Those are where your graduate is named and handed something, and they happen later the same Monday in a different place.
So the Monday is a long day rather than a morning, and leaving straight after the main ceremony means missing the part most families came for.

Nearly every ceremony on this site runs Friday to Saturday, and families book the weekend from habit. Yale’s is a Monday, and so is Penn’s, on the same date.
The night to hold is the Sunday. A conventional graduation-weekend booking checks out the morning before the ceremony, and with school events running Saturday and Sunday most families want all three nights.
