Baylor Homecoming runs Monday 2 November to Saturday 7 November 2026, ending with the Bears against Iowa State at McLane Stadium. Baylor calls its parade the oldest and largest collegiate homecoming parade in the country, and the week also carries the Extravaganza pep rally and bonfire, Pigskin Revue, and the Ten at Ten mass meeting. This is a bigger lodging weekend than graduation: a live check on 11 August 2026 returned 63 bookable Waco properties for homecoming against 79 for the December commencement window. Book Friday and Saturday nights together, because a parade morning followed by a kickoff is a full day and the ring towns are 45 and 60 minutes out. The kickoff time is still TBD.

The busiest weekend Waco runs

Baylor graduation gets the attention. The numbers say homecoming is the harder booking.

A live availability check on 11 August 2026, same day, same method, two-night stays:

  • Homecoming weekend, 6 to 8 November: 63 bookable Waco properties.
  • Commencement weekend, 18 to 20 December: 79 bookable Waco properties.

Sixteen fewer, and homecoming is the nearer date. The reason is structural rather than mysterious. A commencement draws the families of one graduating class. A homecoming draws every class, and Baylor has been running this one since 1909.

Homecoming 2026 runs Monday 2 November to Saturday 7 November, ending with the Bears against Iowa State at McLane Stadium.

Book Friday and Saturday, not just Saturday

The Saturday is not a single event, it is a stack, and the Friday carries its own.

The Extravaganza pep rally and bonfire sits on the Friday evening. That first sight of the bonfire is the thing Baylor alumni write about, and it is not something people drive an hour home from at eleven at night.

Saturday then runs the Homecoming Parade before the game, the alumni tailgate near Touchdown Alley at McLane Stadium, and the game itself. Baylor describes the parade as the oldest and largest collegiate homecoming parade in the country, which is its own claim rather than an independent finding, but the size of it is not in dispute locally, and parades of that scale close roads.

Waco’s fallbacks are Temple at 45 minutes and Killeen at 60, with no near suburb in between. Covering a Friday bonfire and a Saturday parade from either means four long drives across the weekend on the exact days the roads are worst. Book both nights in Waco.

The kickoff is unset, and that matters more than usual

Baylor Athletics lists the Iowa State game as TBD. That is normal for a Big 12 fixture three months out, because television sets kickoffs a few weeks in advance.

It matters here more than it would elsewhere, because the parade is scheduled before the game. An early kickoff pulls the parade back into the early morning and compresses everything; a late one spreads the day out and pushes the tailgate later. Until the time lands, treat the whole Saturday as committed rather than planning around a window.

This page will not print last year’s hours in the meantime. Baylor had not published start times for the individual homecoming events when we checked, only the week and the event list.

What the week actually contains

Baylor names its main events, and the list is longer and stranger than most homecomings.

Event What it is
Ten at Ten Mass meeting welcoming first-year students, with the retelling of the Immortal 10 and the presentation of the Eternal Flame
Pigskin Revue The winning acts from the previous year’s All University Sing, staged again
Extravaganza, Pep Rally and Bonfire The Friday night centrepiece
Homecoming Parade Saturday morning, before the game
Homecoming at the Hurd The Hurd Welcome Center as homecoming headquarters, with student performances, kids’ activities and Saturday morning food trucks
Royal and Pure Stroll-Off Hosted by Phi Beta Sigma with the National Pan-Hellenic Council
Singspiration Homecoming worship service
Baylor Alumni Tailgate Near Touchdown Alley at McLane Stadium before kickoff

Also on the list: Homecoming Worship, Dinner with the Livingstones, the Baylor Alumni Awards, the Homecoming Court, and a Golden Grad reunion for the class of 1976.

If this is a first trip back in years, Baylor points visitors at the Hurd Welcome Center as the place to start.

The 1909 claim, stated as Baylor states it

Baylor holds that it hosted the first collegiate homecoming in the nation in 1909, and it is careful about how it argues that. Its own position is that if you define homecoming as an alumni event built around a varsity football game, then there is no question. Other universities claim the title on other definitions, and Baylor’s own article on the subject is headlined with a hedge rather than an assertion.

Recorded here the same way: it is Baylor’s claim, argued on a stated definition, not an independently settled fact. What is not in dispute is that the tradition has run for well over a century, which is why the alumni turnout behaves the way it does.

If November does not suit

Baylor plays six home games at McLane Stadium in 2026. The other one worth knowing about is Family Weekend and Gold Rush on Saturday 19 September against Louisiana Tech, which has a published 3 p.m. kickoff, unlike homecoming. It is a smaller weekend and an easier booking.

The rest of the home slate is Prairie View A and M on 12 September at 7 p.m., Colorado on 26 September for the Traditions Game, TCU on 17 October for the Revivalry, and Texas Tech on 21 November for Salute to Service and Senior Day. The Iron Bowl of this schedule, as far as lodging goes, is the one this page is about.

What is not established

The kickoff time against Iowa State, and therefore the parade and tailgate start times, all of which Baylor and Baylor Athletics list as TBD. Individual start times for the week’s events were not published at the time of writing. No parade route or road closure list has been posted for 2026, though Baylor has issued closures in past years covering the days either side.

No named Waco hotel was confirmed sold out for the weekend. The 63-property figure is total bookable supply on the date checked, not a sellout claim.

Planning around December instead? The commencement pages cover Saturday 19 December, which is the looser of Baylor’s two big weekends.

Frequently asked questions

When is Baylor Homecoming 2026?

Monday 2 November to Saturday 7 November 2026. Baylor publishes the week as a whole and names its main events, with the football game against Iowa State at McLane Stadium closing it out on the Saturday.

Which nights should I book?

Friday and Saturday. The bonfire and pep rally sit on the Friday evening, the parade runs on the Saturday morning before the game, and the game itself closes the day. Trying to cover that from Temple or Killeen means two 45 to 60 minute drives in each direction on the busiest weekend Waco runs.

Is homecoming really busier than graduation here?

On the numbers, yes. A live check on 11 August 2026 returned 63 bookable Waco properties for the homecoming weekend against 79 for the December commencement window, both queried the same day. Homecoming draws alumni across every graduating class, while a commencement draws one year's families.

What time is the game?

Not announced. Baylor Athletics lists the Iowa State game as TBD, which is normal for a Big 12 fixture this far out because kickoffs are set by television a few weeks in advance. Since the parade is scheduled before the game, an early kickoff compresses the whole morning, so treat the Saturday as open until the time lands.

What actually happens during the week?

Baylor names the main events: Homecoming Worship, Dinner with the Livingstones, the Baylor Alumni Awards, Ten at Ten mass meeting with the retelling of the Immortal 10 and the Eternal Flame, Pigskin Revue, the Homecoming Court, Homecoming at the Hurd, the Royal and Pure Stroll-Off hosted by Phi Beta Sigma and the NPHC, Singspiration, the Extravaganza pep rally and bonfire, the parade, the alumni tailgate near Touchdown Alley, and the game. Individual start times were not published when we checked.

Did Baylor really invent homecoming?

Baylor says the first collegiate homecoming was its own in 1909, and hedges the claim carefully itself: its position is that if you define homecoming as an alumni event built around a varsity football game, then the answer is yes. Other universities dispute it on other definitions. Baylor separately describes its parade as the oldest and largest collegiate homecoming parade in the country.
