Two things make this an easier booking problem than Cambridge. BU is in BOSTON, not Cambridge: its campus runs along Commonwealth Avenue between Kenmore and Allston, which puts Kenmore, Fenway, Back Bay and Allston all in play, plus the whole Green Line. And BU graduates ELEVEN DAYS BEFORE Harvard and MIT, so a BU family is not bidding against Cambridge for rooms. The competing pressure in mid-May Boston is the city's own event calendar rather than another graduation.

Four days, not one
BU’s Commencement Celebrations run 13 to 16 May 2027, with the All-University Commencement on Sunday 16 May closing them.
Both come from BU’s own registrar academic calendar. The practical consequence is that a family attending a school or college ceremony may need the Thursday, Friday or Saturday rather than the Sunday, and BU has not published which school falls when.
If you do not yet know your graduate’s ceremony day, hold refundable nights across the run.
Boston, not Cambridge
BU’s campus runs along Commonwealth Avenue between Kenmore and Allston, in Boston proper. That matters for booking because it puts a different set of neighbourhoods in play than a Cambridge graduation would.
Kenmore is the closest hub and the most convenient. Fenway and Back Bay are both walkable-to-short-ride. Allston is the nearest cheaper option. The Green Line B branch runs the length of the campus, which makes a wide radius genuinely practical rather than theoretical.
You are not competing with Harvard and MIT
This is the most useful structural fact about BU’s date.
Harvard graduates 27 May and MIT 26 to 28 May, eleven days later, across the river. Boston runs two graduation waves and they do not overlap.
So the pressure on your nights comes from Boston’s own mid-May event calendar rather than from another university. That is a materially easier problem than the one Cambridge families face in late May, and it means the ring below behaves normally rather than being swallowed by a second institution.
What we checked
BU’s registrar academic calendar was read on 19 August 2026 and carries both the 13 to 16 May Commencement Celebrations range and the 16 May All-University Commencement. Harvard’s and MIT’s late-May dates come from their own sites, read the same day.
Not published for 2027, and each a real absence: the venue, start times, the per-school celebration schedule, and any guest limit.
