The 2027 date is out: the undergraduate ceremony is Saturday 8 May at Fenway Park, 4 p.m., with the graduate ceremony there the same morning, so the Friday night is the one to hold. A number you can divide
Most of Boston’s hotel advice is useless at this level of detail, so here is the one figure worth carrying.
The Colonnade Hotel, the closest named hotel to Northeastern’s campus, has 285 rooms. Northeastern’s 2026 graduating class was more than 8,400. That is roughly thirty graduates for every room at the nearest property, before anyone brings a parent.
Boston is a large market and it will not run out of rooms entirely. What it will run out of is rooms near the places you need to be, at prices that do not make you wince, and the arithmetic above is why.
Book around Fenway, not around campus
Northeastern does not hold its undergraduate ceremony on campus. It holds it at Fenway Park.
That is a mile and a half from Huntington Avenue, and it quietly changes the right answer to this page’s question. A hotel chosen for its walk to the university is not necessarily a hotel with a sensible walk to the ballpark, and on ceremony morning the ballpark is the one with a fixed start time and a queue.
The practical version: look at Fenway and Back Bay first, then the campus corridor, then the ring. Northeastern has confirmed Fenway for both of its 8 May 2027 ceremonies. The exception is a PhD or Law graduate, whose ceremony is on 1 May at the Leader Bank Pavilion on the Seaport waterfront.
One more thing that catches families out. Boston hosts four large university commencements on four different weeks, and Northeastern’s is not the same week as Harvard’s, MIT’s or BU’s. If you have read Boston graduation advice that assumes one big weekend, it was not written about this university.
The date is published: book around the Friday
Northeastern has announced its 2027 Boston schedule. The undergraduate ceremony is Saturday 8 May 2027 at 4 p.m., and the graduate ceremony for master’s and select professional doctorates is the same day at 10 a.m., both at Fenway Park. PhD and School of Law graduates walk a week earlier, on Saturday 1 May, at the Leader Bank Pavilion on the Seaport waterfront.
For either Fenway ceremony the Friday night, 7 May, is the one to hold. A 4 p.m. ceremony that runs up to two hours, after a two-hour arrival in 2026, ends in the early evening, so most families flying home will want the Saturday night as well. The map and the booking links on this page are now set to that weekend.
The 2026 ceremony was on a Wednesday, which made it a midweek trip. 2027 is a Saturday, so the Fenway and Back Bay rooms are competing with ordinary weekend demand as well as with Northeastern’s own families.
Going outward, and what we could not check
Quincy and Braintree sit about 17 minutes out, Woburn about 20. Both are genuine markets with their own hotel stock rather than overflow strips beside a motorway, and both carry live booking links in the ladder above.
What is not established here, and is left blank rather than guessed: any commencement-specific rate, minimum stay or cancellation policy at a named Boston property; a room count for the Fenway and Back Bay market as a whole; and live availability for the ring towns on the 8 May weekend. The availability figures this cluster holds were gathered against a stand-in weekend before the date was published, and are not quoted on this page for that reason.

Where is the ceremony actually held?
Fenway Park, 4 Jersey Street, for both the undergraduate and the graduate ceremony on 8 May 2027. That is a mile and a half from the Huntington Avenue campus and it moves the centre of gravity for lodging: you want to be near Fenway or in Back Bay, not necessarily next to the university.
Does Northeastern graduate the same weekend as Harvard, MIT or BU?
