Commencement 2027 is Sunday, May 30, 2027, at 10:00 a.m. on the Main Quadrangle, with a formal academic procession, from the college’s own Commencement page. The same page records that Commencement 2026 took place at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, on the Main Quadrangle, alongside remarks by President Michael Elliott and the Class of 2026 student speaker, the Swift Moore Teaching Awards, honorary degrees and the Glee Club.

Two things changed between the years: the day (a Sunday, where 2026 was a Saturday) and the time (a 10 a.m. start, where 2026 was 4 p.m.). Anything you remember from last year’s weekend is the wrong shape for this one.

A 10 a.m. start leaves no slack for a long drive that day. For a family travelling in from outside the valley, that points at Saturday night as the first night to price, which is our reading of the schedule rather than anything the college states. The ceremony is outdoors on the Main Quadrangle; the 2027 rain location has not been published.

Five colleges, one squeeze

Mary Kay Wydra, president of Explore Western Mass, told New England Public Media that during the Pioneer Valley’s stacked college commencement season, with Amherst College, UMass Amherst, Smith, Mount Holyoke and Hampshire all graduating inside roughly the same few weeks, “there’s not a room to be found in the region.”

The practical read is that the ring below is not a reliable pressure valve. Northampton is 20 minutes away and has Smith College in it, so it can compress on the very same weekends. Springfield, 30 minutes out, is the one genuine change of market here: it is the valley’s largest city and its hotels do not live or die by a college calendar.

The 2027 date is now on the college’s page. Not published: a rain location, a ceremony programme, and any ticket or guest limit.

Beyond that: no Amherst-area property was confirmed to operate a commencement room block, a minimum stay or a deposit-forfeit date, so there is no booking deadline on this page. Hotel UMass is listed on proximity and room count, not on a policy we read.

The regional quote above is real and sourced, but it describes the valley in a stacked season rather than a named hotel selling out on a named night. That is why this cluster is graded high and not extreme.
