The University of Cincinnati's next commencement is Friday 11 December 2026, and UC publishes both ceremonies with times: doctoral hooding at 10am, master's and undergraduate at 3pm. Note the order, because it is the reverse of the summer round. Two things matter more than the hour: tickets are required for entry for graduates and guests alike, and a clear bag rule applies with no strollers or balloons. Anyone without a ticket can watch the livestream on campus at Nippert Stadium, TUC Cinema or the TUC Atrium, where no ticket is needed.

Two ceremonies, five hours apart, in the opposite order to last time
UC’s next commencement is Friday 11 December 2026. The university publishes both ceremonies with times: doctoral hooding at 10am, and the master’s and undergraduate ceremony at 3pm.
Check that order against whatever you remember. UC’s summer 2026 round, held on 7 August, ran the other way about: master’s and undergraduate at 9am with doctoral hooding at 2pm. December swaps them. A family planning off the summer pattern arrives half a day out.
The split is by degree level rather than by college, which is a small mercy. At most multi-ceremony universities covered here, working out which sitting applies means chasing a college assignment that has not been published. Here you already know: a doctorate is the morning, everything else is the afternoon.
Tickets are required, and the deadline sits with your graduate
This is the part of a UC commencement that actually constrains a family, and it has nothing to do with hotels.
UC states plainly that tickets are required for entry to all ceremonies, for graduates and guests, and that graduating students are sent instructions and a deadline to claim them. The university does not publish that deadline centrally, because it goes to the student.
The practical consequence: the person who decides how many of you get in is your graduate, working to a date nobody else in the family can see. Settle the headcount early, before the claim window opens, rather than after somebody has booked a flight.
The answer for the guests who miss out
UC streams the ceremony to three places on its own campus: Nippert Stadium, the TUC Cinema and the TUC Atrium, and says explicitly that tickets are not required at any of them.
That is unusually good provision and it changes the calculation for a large family. Overflow guests are not left in a hotel room watching on a phone; they are on campus, a few minutes from the building, and can meet the graduate immediately afterwards.
A clear bag rule is in force for the ceremony, with an Approved Item Policy UC asks guests to read first. Strollers and balloons are not permitted in the venue.
What UC publishes that almost nobody else does
Three future rounds, on one page, with the December times attached:
- Fall 2026: 11 December, doctoral hooding 10am, master’s and undergraduate 3pm
- Spring 2027: 28, 29 and 30 April, and 1 May
- Summer 2027: 6 and 7 August
Most universities in this project have not published a single date twelve months out. Several clusters here carry dates that could not be re-confirmed at all. Against that background, a family with a younger student at UC can plan a 2027 trip now, with the caveat UC itself adds: all information is subject to change.
What we checked, and what we could not
The dates, the December times, the ticket requirement, the clear bag rule and the on-campus livestream locations all come from UC’s own commencement page, read on 10 August 2026. Weekdays are our arithmetic rather than UC’s claim, because the future rounds are published as bare dates: 11 December 2026 is a Friday, 28 April 2027 a Wednesday, 1 May 2027 a Saturday, and 6 and 7 August 2027 a Friday and Saturday.
No venue is published for the December round. UC’s summer 2026 ceremonies were held at Fifth Third Arena, and its ceremony-schedule block shows the venue for the round currently in view rather than for the ones on the save-the-date list. This page does not carry that venue forward. Universities do move buildings between rounds, and a family that turns up at the wrong arena on a December morning has a bad day that no hotel booking fixes.
Also unpublished: doors-open and check-in times for December, and the number of tickets each graduate receives. For the summer round UC published doors at 7:30am with graduate check-in from 7:30 to 8:30 for a 9am start, which shows the shape of a UC ceremony morning without telling you December’s hours.

Frequently asked questions
When is UC's next commencement?
Friday 11 December 2026. Doctoral hooding is at 10am and the master's and undergraduate ceremony at 3pm, both from UC's own "Save the Date for Future Ceremonies" list. UC publishes the date without a weekday; 11 December 2026 is a Friday by the calendar.
Which ceremony am I in?
Doctoral candidates are hooded at 10am. Master's and undergraduate candidates go at 3pm. UC splits by degree level rather than by college, which is easier to work out than most universities on this site.
Is that the same order as the summer ceremony?
No, and this is worth checking rather than assuming. The summer 2026 round ran master's and undergraduate in the morning at 9am with doctoral hooding at 2pm. December reverses it. Anyone planning off the summer pattern will have the two ceremonies the wrong way round.
Do we need tickets?
Yes. UC states that tickets are required for entry to all ceremonies for graduates and guests, and that graduating students are sent instructions and a deadline to claim them. The deadline sits with the graduate, so agree early in the family who is claiming for whom.
What if we have more family than tickets?
UC streams the ceremony to three locations on campus, Nippert Stadium, the TUC Cinema and the TUC Atrium, and states that tickets are not required for those. That is a genuine answer for overflow guests rather than a consolation, and it is a short walk from the ceremony itself.
What can we carry in?
A clear bag rule is in force, and UC asks guests to review its Approved Item Policy before travelling. Strollers and balloons are not permitted in the venue, which catches out families arriving with a small child or a celebration in mind.
What are the dates after December?
Spring 2027 runs across 28, 29 and 30 April and 1 May. Summer 2027 is 6 and 7 August. UC publishes all of them on one page, further ahead than any other university covered on this site, and adds that all information is subject to change.
