Book Perrysburg or Toledo, not Bowling Green, unless you move now. A live availability check for the December window returned FIVE bookable properties in the whole town of Bowling Green, against 15 in Perrysburg twenty minutes north, 33 in Toledo at twenty-five and 16 in Findlay at thirty-five. BGSU graduated 2,511 candidates last spring across two days, so five properties is not a rounding problem, it is the problem. Commencement runs Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December 2026, and the two days are NOT interchangeable: the registrar puts doctoral, masters and undergraduate ceremonies on the Friday and undergraduate on the Saturday.

Five hotels, and 2,511 graduates
Most of this site’s clusters describe a town that struggles with its graduation weekend. Bowling Green does not have enough hotels to struggle with it.
A live availability check on 12 August 2026, for the three nights spanning both ceremony days:
| Where | Drive | Bookable properties |
|---|---|---|
| Bowling Green | epicenter | 5 |
| Perrysburg, OH | 20 min | 15 |
| Toledo, OH | 25 min | 33 |
| Findlay, OH | 35 min | 16 |
Five. Not five with rooms left, five that exist.
Set against that, BGSU’s spring 2026 commencement carried 2,511 candidates across multiple ceremonies over two days. Even at two guests each, the arithmetic does not survive contact with five properties.
So the instruction here is simpler than on most clusters, and it is not “book early in Bowling Green”. It is book the ring. Perrysburg is twenty minutes north with three times the supply. Toledo is twenty-five minutes with six times.
Perrysburg is the one to try first
Toledo is the alternative usually named for Bowling Green, and it is not the only one. Two nearer markets belong in the ring alongside it.
Perrysburg, twenty minutes north up I-75, is the closest real hotel market to campus and holds 15 bookable properties. It is a suburban market that prices below downtown Toledo and it is five minutes closer.
Toledo at twenty-five minutes is the deep option at 33, with a full metro range.
Findlay at thirty-five minutes south holds 16, and it matters for a specific reason: it is on the other side of Bowling Green. If your family is driving up from Columbus or Dayton rather than down from Detroit, Findlay is on your road and Toledo is past your exit.
The two days are not the same day
This is the detail most likely to cost someone a night, and it is published plainly on BGSU’s registrar calendar:
Dec. 11 Doctoral, Masters, and Undergraduate Commencement Dec. 12 Undergraduate Commencement
Some undergraduates graduate on the Friday. If you assume Saturday because that is when graduations usually are, you may book the wrong night entirely, and in a five-hotel town there is no correcting it late.
BGSU ran its summer round as a Friday evening graduate ceremony and a Saturday morning undergraduate one. December has not had times published yet, so which end of the day you need is still open even once you know your date.
Worth knowing too: final exams run 7 to 11 December, finishing on the first ceremony day. Students are still sitting papers while the first families arrive.
What the ceremony itself asks of you
Published for summer 2026 rather than for December, and flagged as such, but useful as the pattern.
Guest tickets were not required, seating was first-come, first-served, and guests could be seated from one hour before. Each ceremony ran about two hours. Parking was free with no permit in the lots around the Stroh Center, with handicap parking nearest for a state-issued placard and golf-cart transport for anyone who needed it.
If December repeats that, first-come seating in a venue with no ticket cap means arriving early matters more than anything else on the day.
What is not established
BGSU had not rolled its Commencement Ceremony Information page over from summer to December at the time of writing, so no December ceremony time, doors time or ticket policy is stated here. The academic calendar names dates only and no venue per round; the Stroh Center is BGSU’s standing commencement venue and is carried at that standing rather than asserted for December.
No named Bowling Green hotel was confirmed sold out, and no commencement rate, minimum stay or cancellation policy was verified at any property.
Coming this autumn instead? Homecoming runs 23 to 27 September, and the football game against South Florida kicks off at 5 p.m. on the Saturday.

Frequently asked questions
How many hotels does Bowling Green actually have?
Five bookable properties came back on a live check for the December window, for the entire town. That is the single most useful number on this page. Perrysburg, twenty minutes north, has three times as many.
Where should I book instead?
Perrysburg first at twenty minutes and 15 properties, then Toledo at twenty-five minutes and 33. Findlay is thirty-five minutes south with 16, which matters if you are driving up from central Ohio rather than down from Michigan. All three are on the ladder above with live availability behind each.
Which day is my graduate's ceremony?
Check, because the two days are different. BGSU's registrar lists Friday 11 December as "Doctoral, Masters, and Undergraduate Commencement" and Saturday 12 December as "Undergraduate Commencement". Some undergraduates are on the Friday. Do not assume the Saturday.
Do guests need tickets?
For the summer 2026 round BGSU said no: "Guest tickets are not required for entry to the summer ceremonies. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis." Guests were seated from one hour before. BGSU had not published December's arrangements when we checked, so treat that as the pattern rather than a promise for December.
Is parking a problem?
It was not in summer. BGSU provided free parking with no permit required in the lots around the Stroh Center, handicap parking in the nearest lots with a state-issued placard, and golf-cart transport for anyone needing it. Again, published for summer rather than for December.
How far ahead should I book?
Local hospitality guidance recommends six to twelve weeks before major BGSU events, noting that hotels frequently sell out or shift to group-block pricing around graduation and homecoming. Counting back from mid-December, six weeks is the start of November and twelve is now.
