BGSU Homecoming runs Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 September 2026, and Saturday the 26th is the day that matters: the Dave Wottle Homecoming 5K at 9 a.m., Falconland from 10 a.m., and BGSU against South Florida at Doyt L. Perry Stadium from 5 to 8 p.m. That 5 p.m. kickoff is the booking argument, because a game finishing at eight means nobody drives home afterwards and the Saturday night goes as fast as the Friday. Bowling Green has FIVE bookable properties. Perrysburg twenty minutes north has 15 and Toledo twenty-five minutes has 33. Tickets are free for BGSU students and start at $23 for everyone else.

A five o’clock kickoff, in a town with five hotels

Homecoming pages usually have to work around an unannounced kickoff. BGSU has already set this one, and the time is the whole argument.

Saturday 26 September, BGSU against South Florida, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Doyt L. Perry Stadium.

An evening kickoff changes the booking. A game that ends at eight o’clock is not one you drive home from to Columbus, Detroit or Cleveland. It fills the Saturday night as hard as the Friday, which is the opposite of what an early kickoff does, and it is why this weekend needs two nights rather than one.

Then look at the supply. Bowling Green has five bookable properties. Not five with rooms left. Five.

Where Drive Bookable properties
Bowling Green on campus 5
Perrysburg, OH 20 min 15
Toledo, OH 25 min 33
Findlay, OH 35 min 16

The ring is where this weekend actually gets booked. Perrysburg at twenty minutes is the closest real market and Toledo at twenty-five is the deepest.

The Saturday, as BGSU publishes it

Time Event Where
Fri 25, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Welcome Back Party Campus
Sat 26, 9 a.m. Dave Wottle Homecoming 5K Campus
Sat 26, 10 a.m. Falconland Campus
Sat 26, 5 to 8 p.m. BGSU vs South Florida Doyt L. Perry Stadium

A nine o’clock start and an eight o’clock finish is an eleven-hour Saturday. Add the Friday evening party and the two-night stay stops being an upsell and becomes the only sensible shape for the trip.

The 5K is named for Dave Wottle, the BGSU alumnus who won the 800 metres at the 1972 Olympics, which is a better piece of homecoming heritage than most universities can offer.

Falconland runs from 10 a.m. as the family end of the day, with hands-on activities and campus exploration, so the gap between the 5K and the kickoff is filled if you have children with you.

Tickets and the wider week

The game is free for BGSU students and starts at $23 for the general public, which is inexpensive as college football goes and means the stadium fills from the town as well as from the alumni base.

Homecoming officially opens on Wednesday 23 September and runs to Sunday 27, with an alumni reunions programme and a broader events listing alongside the four signature events above. BGSU also runs a Homecoming Passport as an all-access guide to the weekend.

Individual times for the wider programme are not reproduced here, because BGSU distributes them through its events calendar rather than as a fixed published schedule, and this site does not restate times it has not read at source.

Booking against a small town

Local hospitality guidance for Bowling Green recommends booking six to twelve weeks ahead of major BGSU events, naming homecoming and graduation specifically, and noting that hotels frequently sell out or move to group-block pricing.

Six weeks before 26 September is mid-August. Which is to say: now, or the ring.

What is not established

No kickoff-adjacent road closures or parking arrangements for homecoming were published at the time of writing, and the free-parking arrangement documented for commencement is a commencement arrangement rather than a game-day one. Game-day parking at Doyt Perry operates on its own athletics rules, which were not verified here.

No named Bowling Green hotel was confirmed sold out for the weekend; the five-property figure is total bookable supply on the date checked, not a sellout claim.

Planning for December instead? BGSU’s commencement runs Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December 2026, and the where to stay page covers why the two days are not interchangeable.

Frequently asked questions

When is BGSU Homecoming 2026?

Wednesday 23 September to Sunday 27 September 2026. The signature events land on the Friday and Saturday: the Welcome Back Party on Friday evening from 5:30 to 9 p.m., then the Dave Wottle Homecoming 5K, Falconland and the football game on the Saturday.

What time is the football game?

5 p.m. on Saturday 26 September, against South Florida at Doyt L. Perry Stadium, running to about 8 p.m. Unusually for a homecoming page on this site, the kickoff is already confirmed rather than TBD. Tickets are free for BGSU students and start at $23 for the general public.

Which nights do I need?

Friday and Saturday. The Welcome Back Party runs Friday evening, and Saturday starts with a 9 a.m. 5K and does not finish until the game ends around eight. A late kickoff is what makes the Saturday night non-negotiable: there is no driving back to Columbus or Detroit after a game that ends at eight.

How bad is the hotel situation?

Bowling Green itself has five bookable properties. That is the whole town. Perrysburg is twenty minutes north with 15 and Toledo twenty-five minutes with 33, and both are on the ladder above with live availability. Local guidance recommends booking six to twelve weeks ahead of major BGSU events, and homecoming is named as one of them.

What else is on during the week?

BGSU publishes a full events listing and an alumni reunions programme alongside the signature events, plus a Homecoming Passport that acts as an all-access guide to the weekend. Individual times beyond the four signature events are not reproduced here.

Is this a bigger weekend than graduation?

For the town, plausibly yes, though we have not measured both. A December commencement brings the families of one graduating cohort into an indoor arena. Homecoming brings alumni across every class plus a stadium crowd, into the same five hotels, on a Saturday built around an evening kickoff.
