CSU runs University-wide Commencement at Canvas Stadium, which brings the whole graduating class together in one place. Then it runs twenty college recognition ceremonies, spread across the Friday and the Saturday.
CSU is explicit about which one matters to a family:
“Recognition ceremonies complement University-wide Commencement by providing the traditional opportunity to hear your name called, walk across a stage and receive your diploma cover.”
So the stadium ceremony is the spectacle and the recognition ceremony is the one with your graduate in it. If your family can only attend one, that is the one.
Commencement weekend 2027 is Friday 14 and Saturday 15 May. Which of those two days you need depends entirely on which recognition ceremony your graduate is assigned to, and CSU had not published the 2027 schedule when we checked. Ask your graduate before you book, because a Friday ceremony and a Saturday ceremony are different trips.
What the scale actually is
For context on why 98 properties is enough here when a dozen is not enough elsewhere: CSU’s 2026 round saw the university describe more than 8,000 graduates celebrated at Canvas Stadium.
That is a very large class, and Fort Collins absorbs it because it is a real city with a real hotel economy rather than a village attached to a campus. The pressure shows up in rate and in the good properties going first, not in the town running out.

What is not established
CSU had not published its 2027 ceremony times or the recognition-ceremony schedule when we checked; its commencement site still described the Spring 2026 round. For scale rather than as a 2027 promise, that round ran University-wide Commencement from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on the Saturday.
No guest-ticket policy, parking arrangement or accessibility provision is published for 2027 either. No named Fort Collins property was confirmed sold out, and no commencement rate or minimum stay was verified anywhere on this ladder.
