Cornell's University Commencement is Saturday, May 29, 2027 — two ceremonies, 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., both at Schoellkopf Field. Central campus roads close 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. that day; park in the outlying lots and take the free shuttle, not a car, to the stadium.

Saturday, May 29, 2027, at Schoellkopf Field

Cornell’s Commencement Weekend runs Friday, May 28 through Sunday, May 30, 2027, but the two University Commencement ceremonies — where more than 8,000 degree candidates are conferred, with roughly 6,000 participating in person — both happen on Saturday, May 29, at the same outdoor venue:

  • 10:00–11:00 a.m. — Ceremony I, Schoellkopf Field.
  • 2:30–3:30 p.m. — Ceremony II, Schoellkopf Field.

Roughly 3,000 people participate in each ceremony. With a 3.5-hour gap between them, most families plan a mid-day break somewhere in town rather than staying at the stadium all day.

Roads close at 6:30 a.m. — plan around it, not through it

Cornell is explicit about this: interior and central campus roads, including everything around Schoellkopf Stadium, close at 6:30 a.m. and stay closed until 5:00 p.m. that Saturday, buses excepted. Don’t plan to drive to the stadium directly.

Instead: park in an outlying lot — Cornell names B Lot, BTI, TRB, and the area around the Vet School — and ride the free shuttle buses, which run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., stopping at central campus (Tower Road and Feeney Way), North Campus, and the stadium.

Accessibility note: state-issued handicap placards do not grant access through the road closures. Cornell asks guests who need accommodation to request an Accessibility Plan from the Commencement Office ahead of time, not rely on a standard placard that day.

Every Cornell commencement date published so far

Cornell’s registrar publishes commencement dates years ahead. Nobody else compiles this — here’s every date we’ve verified:

Year Commencement Weekend
2027 May 28–30 (ceremonies Saturday, May 29)
2028 May 26–28
2029 May 25–27
2030 May 24–26

If you have a younger student on a similar timeline, this is worth bookmarking — hotel and rental booking windows open long before Cornell’s own site is the first thing you’d think to check.

Where this fits with your hotel plan

If you’re still deciding where to stay, see the verified epicenter options or Cornell’s own 90-mile ring, mapped — with roads closing at 6:30 a.m. and two ceremonies to get to, a predictable shuttle connection matters more here than a short drive.
