FAU's registrar academic calendar (the page notes "Spring 2027 updated September 10, 2026") lists the Fall 2026 term ending with "Dec 16 Wed Final Exams End", "Dec 17 Thu Commencement", "Dec 18 Fri Commencement". Its Spring 2027 PDF runs "May 5 Wed Semester Ends", "May 6 Thu", "May 7 Fri", "May 8 Sat Commencement** (tentative)", with commencement marked against all three May days. 17 December 2026 is a Thursday, 18 December a Friday; 6 May 2027 is a Thursday, 7 May a Friday and 8 May a Saturday. The PDF's footnotes read "** No classes or exams are scheduled on Commencement days." and "This calendar is subject to change by appropriate authority." No venue, time or ticket rule is published on any FAU page this site could read: fau.edu/commencement/, the registrar's graduation page and the venue page cited by the research all returned errors on 23 September 2026.

Five days, two rounds, one calendar

FAU keeps its commencement dates in the registrar’s academic calendar rather than on a countdown page, and the calendar is precise. Fall 2026 ends: “Dec 16 Wed Final Exams End”, “Dec 17 Thu Commencement”, “Dec 18 Fri Commencement”. Spring 2027, in the PDF the same page links: “May 5 Wed Semester Ends”, then “May 6 Thu”, “May 7 Fri” and “May 8 Sat Commencement (tentative)”**, with commencement marked against all three.

17 December 2026 is a Thursday, 18 December a Friday. 6 May 2027 is a Thursday, 7 May a Friday, 8 May a Saturday. The page records that the Spring 2027 calendar was updated on 10 September 2026, a fortnight before this reading.

Weekday ceremonies, by design

The footnote explains the shape: “ No classes or exams are scheduled on Commencement days.”** FAU stops teaching for them rather than pushing them to a weekend, which is how a university with thousands of graduates moves several colleges through one hall over consecutive afternoons.

It also means the family travel problem here is not “which weekend” but “which weekday”, and that is the fact FAU has not yet published.

Two sentences that say “do not prepay”

The Saturday in May carries “(tentative)”. Every page of the calendar ends with “This calendar is subject to change by appropriate authority.” Those are the university’s words, not an inference, and they are the reason this cluster’s advice is to book rooms you can cancel.

What is missing, and why

No venue, no times, no ticket rule, no college split. FAU’s commencement site, the registrar’s graduation page and the auditorium page cited in the research behind this cluster all returned errors or 404 on 23 September 2026. This site publishes what it read on the university’s own pages, so it publishes the dates and stops there.

Two practical consequences. First, confirm the building with your graduate: FAU runs campuses in Boca Raton, Davie and Jupiter, and the hotels on the where to stay page are chosen for their distance from the Boca Raton campus. Second, assume there may be a guest ticket limit until you are told there is not.

What the next check will fix

This cluster is reviewed at the start of November, before the December round, specifically to capture the venue, the times and the day-by-college split, and to see whether the May Saturday has lost its “(tentative)”. Until then, the dates above are the whole of what FAU has published.

Frequently asked questions

When is FAU's spring 2027 commencement?

Thursday 6, Friday 7 and Saturday 8 May 2027, the Saturday marked "(tentative)" on FAU's own Spring 2027 calendar, read on 23 September 2026. All three weekdays check out.

When is the December round?

Thursday 17 and Friday 18 December 2026, per the Fall 2026 table on the registrar's calendar page.

Why are the ceremonies on weekdays?

Because FAU clears the timetable for them: "No classes or exams are scheduled on Commencement days," per the calendar footnote. Spreading the ceremonies across consecutive days is how a university of FAU's size fits its colleges through one venue.

Which day does my graduate walk?

Not published where this site could read it. The split by college or degree level normally appears on FAU's commencement site, which was unreachable at this check. Ask your graduate, and hold a cancellable room across the days until you know.

Where is the ceremony?

Not published on any page this site could read. The research behind this cluster cited a venue page that returned 404. FAU has several campuses, so confirm the building before choosing a hotel for its distance.

Do we need tickets?

Unknown at this check, for the same reason. Assume a guest limit until your graduate's instructions say otherwise.

Is the May Saturday confirmed?

No. FAU prints "(tentative)" against Saturday 8 May 2027, and the whole calendar carries "This calendar is subject to change by appropriate authority." Book accordingly.

How many nights?

One, on the night before your graduate's day, once the day is known. Until then, cancellable rooms across the pair in December or the trio in May. The where-to-stay page has the three hotels within two miles.
