LSU's summer commencement is Friday 14 August 2026, one Main Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. in the Maravich Assembly Center. Graduate check-in runs 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and LSU states graduates may not be admitted after 8:30, half an hour before the start. Guest doors open about an hour before. There is no cap on guest numbers, but LSU's clear bag policy applies and all backpacks are barred. Fall commencement follows on Thursday 17 December 2026, and spring 2027 runs across 14 and 15 May.

One ceremony, and a hard door at 8:30

LSU’s summer commencement is Friday 14 August 2026, a single Main Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, covering doctoral, bachelor’s and master’s candidates together.

The number that decides your morning is not 9:00. It is 8:30, because LSU states plainly that graduates may not be admitted after it. Check-in opens at 7:30, and where a graduate reports depends on the degree: doctoral candidates and their major professors go to the northern entrance to the Assembly Center, beside the gymnastics training facility, while bachelor’s and master’s candidates check in at the southwest portal of the PMAC, separated by senior college.

Ninety minutes of check-in, closing thirty minutes before the ceremony starts. A family staying an hour out has no margin in that, and a graduate who arrives at 8:35 does not walk.

What guests can expect

Guest doors open roughly an hour before the ceremony, so around 8:00 a.m. for a 9:00 start. LSU states there is no restriction on the number of guests for the summer ceremony, which removes the ticket anxiety that dominates most graduation weekends and replaces it with a seating-time question instead: no cap means the good seats go to whoever is there when the doors open.

Graduates are invited to walk across the stage as their names are called. Afterwards, LSU asks graduates and guests to plan to meet outside the venue rather than inside.

The clear bag rule catches people out

The Assembly Center is an athletics venue, so LSU’s clear bag policy applies to commencement exactly as it does to a game.

What is allowed: a clear tote smaller than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a one-gallon clear plastic bag, or a small clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. What is not: all backpacks, regardless of size, and any diaper bag that is not clear. Exceptions are made only for approved medical needs, and all bags are subject to search.

That last detail is the one worth passing on to whoever is carrying things for a baby or an older relative. Turning up with an ordinary diaper bag means a walk back to the car, in August, in Baton Rouge, against an 8:30 clock.

The later rounds, and one page not to trust

Fall commencement is Thursday 17 December 2026. Spring 2027 runs Friday 14 and Saturday 15 May, described by the registrar as held over a two-day period, and the following summer round is listed for 13 August 2027.

A caution about sourcing on the December date. LSU’s own fall ceremonies page was still showing the December 2025 schedule when we checked, with its per-college times and venues from that year. It looks current and it is not. The December 2026 date on this page comes from LSU’s events calendar and its registrar calendar instead, and no per-college time has been carried across from the 2025 page.

Still unpublished

The per-college schedules for December 2026 and May 2027. LSU splits those rounds across several venues by college, so which building your graduate walks in, and at what hour, is not knowable yet from any central page.

Also unpublished: whether the no-cap guest rule and the meet-outside instruction carry from the summer ceremony to the multi-ceremony rounds. Both are stated on the summer page. Neither is stated as a standing policy, and this page does not extend them to December or May on our own authority.
