Mississippi State holds a commencement week, not a commencement weekend. Spring 2027 runs Tuesday 11 May to Friday 14 May. The DVM ceremony is 11 May at 11:30 a.m. at Humphrey Coliseum and Doctoral Graduation and Hooding the same day at 4 p.m. in Bettersworth Auditorium. Starkville undergraduate and master's ceremonies then run at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday 13 May and again on Friday 14 May. MSU's own calendar has not yet assigned colleges to those four sittings, so the assignment is not yet public. Separately, MSU-Meridian graduates 12 May at 11 a.m. at the Riley Center, about 90 miles away.

A week, not a weekend
Mississippi State’s spring 2027 commencement runs from Tuesday 11 May to Friday 14 May, and the shape of it is unusual enough to plan around carefully.
Tuesday 11 May carries two ceremonies for specific groups: the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in Humphrey Coliseum, and Doctoral Graduation and Hooding for PhD and EdD candidates at 4 p.m. in Bettersworth Auditorium, Lee Hall.
Thursday 13 and Friday 14 May carry the main Starkville ceremonies, two on each day, at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
That is four separate Starkville sittings across two days, plus two specialist ceremonies earlier in the week. A family asking “when is Mississippi State graduation” is asking a question with six possible answers.
The assignment has not been published
MSU’s own calendar is unusually honest about this: the four Starkville sittings each carry a note that the colleges are still to be determined.
So the university has fixed the dates and times and has not yet decided which colleges attend which. That is the single piece of information that determines your travel, and it is not available from the calendar at any level of detail.
It will come from your graduate’s college. Chase it as soon as it exists, because Starkville has a very small hotel base and four days of families cycling through it, which the lodging page in this cluster sets out.
Meridian is ninety miles away
Both campuses appear on the same calendar page, which makes this easy to get wrong.
MSU-Meridian graduates on Wednesday 12 May 2027 at 11 a.m. at the Riley Center. Meridian is roughly 90 miles from Starkville.
If that is your ceremony, the date above is yours and nothing else on this page is: the venue, the ring towns, the drive times and the hotel arithmetic all measure from Starkville. Treat them as belonging to a different trip.
What we checked, and what we could not
Every date, time and venue on this page comes from Mississippi State’s own registrar spring 2027 academic calendar, read on 7 August 2026. The weekdays were cross-checked independently against the calendar: 11 May 2027 is a Tuesday, 12 May a Wednesday, 13 May a Thursday and 14 May a Friday, all consistent with the run the calendar sets out. That check exists because a date carried forward from a previous year almost always fails it, and it has caught nine wrong dates on this project.
What we could not establish: which colleges sit in which of the four Starkville ceremonies, because MSU has not decided; doors-open and seating times; ticket limits per graduate; and parking arrangements at Humphrey Coliseum. Those are absent here rather than reconstructed from a previous year’s schedule.

Frequently asked questions
When is MSU's 2027 commencement?
Tuesday 11 May to Friday 14 May 2027. The DVM ceremony and Doctoral Hooding are on the 11th; Starkville ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the 13th and again on the 14th. From MSU's own registrar calendar, re-read 7 August 2026.
Which ceremony is my graduate in?
Not published. MSU's calendar lists the four Starkville sittings with the colleges still to be determined, so the college assignment had not been made public at the time of this check. It comes from the college directly.
Where are the ceremonies held?
Humphrey Coliseum for the DVM ceremony and the Starkville ceremonies, and Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall for Doctoral Graduation and Hooding. MSU-Meridian uses the Riley Center in Meridian.
Why does it run four days?
Because MSU separates its professional and doctoral ceremonies from its main Starkville sittings, and then splits the Starkville ceremonies into four across two days. The result is a week rather than a weekend, which spreads demand on a very small hotel base.
Is the Meridian ceremony part of this?
No. MSU-Meridian graduates on 12 May 2027 at 11 a.m. at the Riley Center, roughly 90 miles from Starkville. It is a different campus and a different city, and this cluster's lodging does not apply to it.
How many nights should I book?
Decide after you know your sitting. A 9:30 a.m. Thursday ceremony and a 2:30 p.m. Friday one need different nights, and Starkville's supply is too thin to absorb a change of plan comfortably.
