Two ceremonies on one Friday afternoon

NDSU’s Fall Commencement is Friday, December 18, 2026, run as two ceremonies — 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

NDSU’s guest guidance adds a few useful, low-drama facts: no tickets or guest passes are required, doors open an hour before the ceremony starts, and parking is free. A 5 p.m. ceremony in Fargo in the third week of December ends well after dark, which is worth factoring into any plan that involves driving out the same evening.

A venue question worth checking yourself

Here is something we are not going to resolve for you, because we could not resolve it cleanly ourselves.

NDSU’s commencement page lists the Sanford Health Athletic Complex against the Fall 2026 ceremony. Its separate guest-information page discusses parking and door times at the Fargodome. Those are two different buildings on the NDSU campus.

There are perfectly ordinary explanations — the guest page may be written around the larger spring ceremony, or one of the two may simply be more current than the other. What we are not willing to do is pick the one that sounds right and print it as fact. A family that drives to the wrong building on a December afternoon has been badly served by a page like this one.

Check the venue on your graduate’s own invitation. If you are booking a hotel around walking distance, resolve this before you book, not after.

NDSU has published nothing past December

There is no spring 2027 date on NDSU’s commencement page, and the university states that deadlines and details are communicated to graduates directly by email.

We have deliberately not filled that gap with last spring’s date. Elsewhere on this site we do use a prior year’s ceremony as a clearly-labelled reference when a university has published nothing — but that pattern earns its keep when the reference tells a family something useful about a weekend’s shape. Here, the December ceremony is confirmed, near, and the one this cluster is actually about. Adding an unlabelled-looking spring date next to it would blur the one thing that is solid.

When NDSU publishes spring 2027, it will appear on its commencement page first, and this cluster is scheduled for recheck before then.
