PVAMU splits commencement by degree level, and its own registrar calendar says which day is which: the GRADUATE ceremony is Friday 7 May 2027 and the UNDERGRADUATE ceremony is Saturday 8 May 2027. Both weekdays were cross-checked against the calendar's labels. That split is the fact to plan around, because a family attending a Saturday ceremony needs the Friday night and a family attending Friday's needs the Thursday, and a household with one of each needs both. No venue or start time is published for 2027; Spring 2026 used the Baby Dome and Spring 2021 used Panther Stadium, so do not assume either. The fall round is Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December 2026, also without venue or times. And the lodging is the other half of the story: Prairie View has no hotel, so everyone stays in Waller or further out.

Two rows on a calendar, and they are different ceremonies

PVAMU’s registrar publishes its Spring 2027 term as a dated table, and two rows in it are commencement:

May 07, 2027, Friday: Commencement, Graduate Ceremony. May 08, 2027, Saturday: Commencement, Undergraduate Ceremony.

That is the university’s own wording. 7 May 2027 is a Friday and 8 May a Saturday, so the calendar’s day labels agree with its dates, which is the check that catches a date carried over from the wrong year. Both passed.

The thing to take from it is the split. This is not one commencement with two sessions to choose from. It is a graduate ceremony on one day and an undergraduate ceremony on the next, and which one is yours is decided by the degree, not by preference.

What the split does to the trip

A Saturday undergraduate ceremony makes the Friday night the one everyone needs. A Friday graduate ceremony makes it the Thursday. A family with a master’s candidate and a bachelor’s candidate in the same year, which happens, needs both.

Start times would sharpen this, and none are published. The calendar marks both rows as all-day events. An early start argues for arriving the night before; a late-afternoon one can add the night of. Until PVAMU posts the schedule, book the night before your ceremony on a refundable rate and revisit it.

Nobody has said where

No venue is published for either 2027 ceremony as of 12 September 2026, and this page does not guess.

The history is worth having because it shows why guessing would be a mistake. In Spring 2026, PVAMU’s own announcement named the William “Billy” J. Nicks, Sr. Building, the Baby Dome, an indoor arena. In Spring 2021 the ceremony was in Panther Stadium, outdoors. Those are different buildings with different parking, different weather exposure and different capacities, and a family that books around one when the university uses the other has planned the wrong day.

The fall round is the same shape, sooner

The Fall 2026 calendar gives commencement as Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December 2026, two rows again, weekday cross-checked. No venue, no times, no published statement of which day is which level. If that is your round, everything above applies with the holidays added, and the useful re-check date is closer than it looks.

The part that is not about the ceremony

Prairie View has no hotel. PVAMU’s own resources page lists five under “Hotels near Prairie View” and every one is in Waller, the next town east. The nearest has 75 rooms. Nearly 1,000 candidates were expected in Spring 2026.

That is the lodging problem this campus actually has, and it is on the where to stay page rather than here. The short version: book Waller first, early, and know that Cypress, Tomball and Brenham are the fallbacks at half an hour and more.

Frequently asked questions

When is PVAMU's Spring 2027 commencement?

Friday 7 May 2027 for the graduate ceremony and Saturday 8 May 2027 for the undergraduate ceremony, on the registrar's Spring 2027 16-week calendar. Read on 12 September 2026; both weekdays match the calendar's own labels.

Which ceremony is ours?

By degree level. Master's and doctoral candidates walk on the Friday; bachelor's candidates on the Saturday. That is how the calendar labels the two rows. Confirm with your graduate's college if there is any doubt.

Where is the ceremony held?

Not published for 2027 as of 12 September 2026. In Spring 2026 PVAMU's announcement named the William "Billy" J. Nicks, Sr. Building, the Baby Dome. In Spring 2021 it was Panther Stadium. This page carries neither forward.

What time does it start?

Not published. The calendar rows are marked all-day. Start times are the detail that decides whether you need the night before, the night of, or both, so re-check PVAMU's commencement page as the date approaches.

When is the December round?

Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December 2026, from the Fall 2026 full-term calendar, weekday cross-checked. No venue or times published for that round either.

Does anything overlap the ceremony?

Final examinations run 29 April to 6 May 2027 on the same calendar, so the graduate ceremony on the 7th is the day after exams end. Campus will be turning over from students to families that Friday.

How many nights?

One per ceremony you attend, the night before, until times are published. A household with a graduate on each day needs Thursday and Friday. Book refundably; the nearest hotels are in Waller, and there are few of them.
