SEMO's commencement is one Saturday in the Show Me Center on campus, Saturday 15 May 2027 and, before that, Saturday 19 December 2026, per the registrar's graduation page. The guest page carries a standing time table: 10 a.m. for Business and Computing and for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; 2 p.m. for Arts and Media, for Education, Health and Human Studies, and for Humanities and Social Sciences. The college decides the night. Cape Girardeau has one hotel within a mile of the arena, the Courtyard downtown on Broadway with 91 rooms and suites, and a chain cluster at the I-55 exits four miles west where the Drury Plaza has 168 rooms and Auburn Place 133. Jackson is 19 minutes, Sikeston 43, and Carbondale, Illinois, an hour across the river. Bags are discouraged. No ticket requirement appears on the pages read.

One hotel by the river, the rest by the interstate

Cape Girardeau’s hotels are in two places. Downtown, a mile from the Show Me Center, there is one: the Courtyard Cape Girardeau Downtown, 400 Broadway Street, 78 rooms and 13 suites over five floors per HotelGuides, two minutes from the arena and in walking distance of the riverfront restaurants. Marriott’s own page would not load for this check.

Four miles west at the I-55 exits is the cluster. The Drury Plaza Hotel Conference Center, 3351 Percy Drive, is the largest in the city at 168 rooms over eight floors; the Auburn Place Hotel & Suites, 3265 Williams Street, an independent, has 133 rooms. Both are nine to ten minutes from the arena. HotelGuides lists several more chain properties at the same exits.

None of the three publishes a commencement-specific minimum stay, prepayment or cancellation rule, and none is claimed here. SEMO does not publish a hotel list on the pages read.

One Saturday, two ceremonies, and the college picks the hour

The registrar’s graduation page gives the dates plainly: “May 15, 2027 Commencement” in the Spring 2027 table and “December 19, 2026 Commencement” in the Fall 2026 table. Both are Saturdays. The same page says spring candidates “may only participate in the spring 2027 commencement ceremony”, so the December and May rounds do not overlap.

The Families and Guests page carries a standing time table: 10 a.m. for the College of Business and Computing and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; 2 p.m. for Arts and Media, for Education, Health and Human Studies, and for Humanities and Social Sciences. The table is not attached to a specific date on the page, so this site carries it as SEMO’s practice and checks it before each round.

A 10 a.m. college means the Friday night. A 2 p.m. college can be driven from Jackson or Sikeston the same morning.

Bags, and what the pages do not say

“Graduates and guests are encouraged not to bring bags. If they do, they must meet the requirements outlined at Safety Protocols.” No ticket requirement appears on either page read on 20 September 2026; SEMO emails commencement instructions to graduates about two weeks before each round, and those govern. The ceremony weekend logistics page has the venue and the time table in full.

The ring crosses a river

Jackson, 19 minutes northwest, is the county seat and small. Sikeston, 43 minutes south where I-55 meets I-57, has interstate-exit hotels. Carbondale, Illinois, 66 minutes across the Mississippi, is Southern Illinois University’s town with a university hotel base and its own SIU Carbondale cluster on this site; check SIU’s calendar before counting on it. Marion, Illinois, 73 minutes, is the I-57 interchange beyond Carbondale.

Drive times are off-peak road routes computed on 20 September 2026, not measured journeys. No availability series has been run for any of them.

Not claimed here

No availability count, because none was measured. No graduate count, because SEMO does not publish one on the pages read. No ticket rule, because the pages state none. No 2026 pattern, because the university’s page no longer carries last spring’s schedule.

Will Cape Girardeau sell out?

No matched-window availability series has been run for Cape Girardeau, so this page publishes no count, and no university or hotel statement about sell-outs was found. Structurally the interstate cluster is large for a city this size; the one downtown hotel is the property that fills.

Which night do we need?

The Friday night if your graduate's college walks at 10 a.m. (Business and Computing; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). A 2 p.m. college (Arts and Media; Education, Health and Human Studies; Humanities and Social Sciences) can be driven from Jackson or Sikeston that morning. The time table is SEMO's standing split on the guest page; confirm it against the instructions the university emails before each round.

Where is the overflow?

Jackson, 19 minutes northwest, is small. Sikeston, 43 minutes south on I-55, has interstate hotels. Carbondale, Illinois, an hour across the river, is Southern Illinois University's town with this site's own cluster; Marion is 73 minutes beyond it.

Do we need tickets?

The registrar's graduation and guest pages, read on 20 September 2026, name no ticket requirement; they say "Graduates and guests are encouraged not to bring bags" and point to the university's safety protocols. SEMO emails commencement instructions to graduates about two weeks before each round; treat those as the final word.

What about December?

Saturday 19 December 2026 in the Show Me Center, per the registrar's page, with the same college time table. Plan on the Friday night for a 10 a.m. college.
