SUU's graduation page carries the date in its header: "Commencement - April 22, 2027 at 7PM." That is a Thursday evening, and it matches the 2026 pattern, when the ceremony ran 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday 23 April. It is not the whole weekend. SUU's events calendar lists "Friday, April 23, 2027 - College/School Degree Convocations", the separate ceremonies where graduates are recognised by college, and most families attend both. Two things are open as of 12 September 2026: the 2027 venue, since the 2026 ceremony's America First Events Center has not been restated for 2027, and the Thursday time, because one retrieval of SUU's event listing showed Time TBA where the graduation page says 7 PM. The provost's calendar puts final exams at 19 to 22 April, so the ceremony falls on the last exam day. Plan the Thursday and Friday nights.

A Thursday evening, on the university’s own page
SUU’s graduation page runs a countdown, and the line under it reads “Commencement - April 22, 2027 at 7PM.”
22 April 2027 is a Thursday. That fits: SUU’s 2026 ceremony was Thursday 23 April, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., per the university’s own events listing. A weekday evening ceremony is unusual on this site, where most clusters are Saturday mornings, and it changes the trip in a way worth stating early. An evening ceremony ends late. Nobody drives home afterwards. The Thursday night is the one everyone needs.
The Friday is not optional for most families
SUU separates the university-wide commencement from the College/School Degree Convocations, and its events calendar lists those for Friday 23 April 2027.
The convocations are where each college recognises its own graduates by name. For most families they are the event that matters as much as the Thursday ceremony, and attending both means staying the Friday night too unless the drive home starts straight from the venue. Two events on two days is the whole shape of this weekend.
Times and rooms for the 2027 convocations are not yet published.
Two things this page will not settle
The venue. SUU’s 2026 commencement was at the America First Events Center, 109 South 800 West, Cedar City. Nothing SUU has published names a venue for 2027. Carrying the 2026 building forward would probably be right and this site does not publish “probably” about a building.
The time. The graduation page says 7 PM. A retrieval of SUU’s 2027 event-calendar entry for the same ceremony showed “Time TBA”. Two official sources, two answers. This page uses the explicit one and records the disagreement rather than pretending it is not there. Re-check both before booking anything non-refundable.
Exams end the same day
The provost’s Spring 2027 calendar puts final examinations at 19 to 22 April. The Thursday ceremony is the last exam day.
Practically: campus parking and traffic that day carry students finishing exams and families arriving for a 7 p.m. event, and the changeover happens in the late afternoon.
The town is the constraint
Cedar City is a town of about 35,000 on I-15 with no larger neighbour for nearly an hour. SUU’s own parents page lists ten hotels; the nearest to campus has 81 rooms; the 2026 class was 3,466 graduates. Two nights of demand against that inventory is the lodging story, and it is told on the where to stay page. The short version is to book two nights in Cedar City now, and know that St. George, 56 minutes south, is the fallback.

Frequently asked questions
When is SUU's 2027 commencement?
Thursday 22 April 2027 at 7 p.m., per the header of SUU's own graduation page, read on 12 September 2026. 22 April 2027 is a Thursday, and SUU's 2026 ceremony was also a Thursday evening.
What are the convocations?
Separate ceremonies by college and school on Friday 23 April 2027, where graduates are recognised individually. SUU's events calendar lists the date. Times and rooms for 2027 are not yet published.
Do we need to attend both?
Most families do. The Thursday ceremony is university-wide; the Friday convocation is where your graduate's own college recognises them. Plan for both unless your graduate's college says otherwise.
Where is the ceremony held?
Not published for 2027 as of 12 September 2026. The 2026 ceremony was at the America First Events Center, 109 S 800 W, Cedar City, per SUU's events listing. This page does not carry that venue forward.
Is 7 p.m. confirmed?
The graduation page states it. One retrieval of the 2027 event-calendar entry showed Time TBA. The two SUU sources disagree, this page uses the explicit one and flags it, and the honest advice is to re-check both before booking flights.
Does anything overlap?
Spring 2027 final exams run 19 to 22 April on the provost's calendar, so the Thursday ceremony is on the last exam day. Campus will be busy with both populations.
How many nights?
Two: the Thursday night after a 7 p.m. ceremony and the Friday night after the convocations, unless you leave straight after Friday's event. Cedar City's nearest hotel to campus has 81 rooms and St. George is nearly an hour away, so book both early.
