Utah State's next commencement is Wednesday 5 May 2027, with assembly at 5:30 p.m., the academic procession at 6:00 and the 140th Commencement Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. College convocations run across 5 to 7 May. Two things about this differ from almost every other cluster on this site. It is a midweek evening ceremony, so the nights you need are Tuesday and Wednesday rather than a weekend. And Utah State holds no December or fall ceremony at all: its own commencement page invites students who graduate in Fall 2026 to the 2027 ceremonies, so a family whose graduate finishes in the winter is travelling in May or not travelling. Booking is easier than the Logan valley's size suggests, because a midweek ceremony lands on nights that were never busy.

There is no December ceremony, and that is the headline
Most universities on this site run two commencement rounds a year. Utah State runs one.
Its commencement page puts it plainly: students who graduate in Fall 2026 or in Spring and Summer 2027 are all invited to the 2027 graduation ceremonies. The university’s own academic calendar lists commencement only against spring, with nothing against the fall term.
For a family that means one thing. If your graduate finishes their degree in December 2026, there is no winter ceremony to travel to. The ceremony is Wednesday 5 May 2027, five months later, and everyone walks together.
Worth stating because the assumption cuts the other way almost everywhere else. Roughly half the clusters covered here hold a December round, and several of them are the cheaper, quieter weekend to attend. Utah State does not offer that choice.
A Wednesday evening, not a weekend
The second thing that separates this cluster is the day of the week.

College convocations and hooding ceremonies run across 5 to 7 May, so the university’s graduation runs Wednesday to Friday rather than across a weekend.
The nights that matter are therefore Tuesday and Wednesday for the main ceremony. A 7:00 p.m. start that runs into the evening is not a drive home for anyone who came over the pass, and Logan is 100 minutes from Salt Lake City through Sardine Canyon.
What has not been published is which college holds its convocation on which day. With three days of them, that is the detail that decides whether a family needs Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday and Friday. When we checked on 16 August 2026 the main ceremony had a full running order and a venue, and the convocations had dates only.
The midweek timing makes this the easy round to book
Logan is a small market at the top of a valley, which usually predicts pressure. It does not here, and the reason is the calendar rather than the geography.

Against a control median of 27, the ceremony window leaves about 85 per cent of a normal Logan midweek available. Across this site the median spring commencement leaves 46 per cent. Utah State’s is one of the mildest spring rounds we have measured, and a Wednesday ceremony landing on nights that were never busy is the whole explanation.
Two caveats on that, stated rather than buried. The reading was taken nine months ahead, which is early; unlike some far-out series it differentiated properly across windows rather than returning one flat number, which is why it is published at all. And Logan is the first cluster where booking.com’s two count fields disagree, because the rendered card list caps at 25 per page while the stated total runs higher. The figures above are the stated totals.
Same town, same year, a completely different weekend
The interesting comparison is not with other universities. It is with Utah State’s own homecoming.
On the weekend of 25 to 27 September 2026, when homecoming and Parent and Family Weekend fall together and Maverik Stadium fills, Logan drops to seven bookable properties against a control median of 22. That is 32 per cent remaining, one of the sharpest squeezes measured anywhere on this site.
Seven months later the same town, for its own graduation, gives up a seventh of its inventory.
The difference is not the size of the crowd. It is that one event is a Saturday and the other is a Wednesday. If you want the version of this cluster where booking early genuinely decides whether you get a room, it is the homecoming page, not this one.
Getting there, and getting out
Logan sits at the top of Cache Valley and the mountains do the work distance usually does.

Brigham City is the first place to try if Logan is gone. Ogden is where the real depth is, and the number to remember there is the 63 minutes rather than the 49 miles: the route runs down the canyon, and a map that shows you a short hop is showing you the distance and not the road.
One candidate was checked and excluded. Garden City on Bear Lake returned a count above a hundred, which no village of that size supports, so the search had clearly resolved to the wider Bear Lake rental area rather than the town. It is left out rather than published.

Is it hard to get a room in Logan for graduation?
Less than you would expect. Five matched two-night midweek searches on 16 August 2026 returned 29, 26, 23, 28 and 25 bookable properties, with the commencement window the 23. That leaves about 85 per cent of a normal Logan midweek available, against a 46 per cent median for spring commencements across this site. The midweek timing is doing that work.
What is the drive if Logan is full?
Longer than the map says. Brigham City is 37 minutes and the first stop worth trying. Ogden is under fifty miles but 63 minutes by road, because the route runs down Sardine Canyon rather than across open ground. Salt Lake City is 84 miles and about 100 minutes.
What has Utah State not published?
The per-college convocation venues and times for 5 to 7 May 2027. The main ceremony has a venue and a full running order; the convocations have dates only. With three days of them, that is the piece that decides which nights a family actually needs, and it does not exist yet.
