Two weekends stacked on one valley

Utah State holds homecoming on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September 2026. It holds Parent and Family Weekend from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 September 2026. These are not neighbouring weekends. They are the same one.

Alumni coming back for homecoming and families arriving for their first-year students are competing for the same rooms on the same nights, in a valley whose overflow is half an hour down a canyon.

What that does to Logan, measured

This is the sharpest result on the site, so here is the working.

Five matched two-night searches in Logan, one session, 16 August 2026, two adults and one room throughout:

Against a control median of twenty-two, seven properties is 32 per cent of a normal weekend. For comparison, the median spring graduation weekend across every cluster on this site leaves 46 per cent, and the one homecoming weekend previously measured here left 40 per cent.

Six weeks out, two thirds of Logan’s bookable market was already gone.

One note on method, because Logan is the first town where it mattered. Booking.com reports a total and also renders a card list that stops at 25 per page. On the wider windows those two disagree, reading 25 cards against totals of 26 and 23. The figures above are the totals.

The midnight problem

True Aggie Night begins at 11:59 p.m. on the Friday, at the Block A. The tradition goes back to 1916 and the timing is the point of it.

For anyone planning to attend and drive back, that hour settles the question. Brigham City is 37 minutes away. Ogden is 63 minutes down Sardine Canyon. Salt Lake City is 100 minutes. None of those is a drive you want to start at half past midnight, and the Saturday then opens with a 5K at 8:30 a.m. and a parade at ten.

This is a two-night weekend on the clock alone, before the availability numbers are considered at all.

The kick-off time is not settled, and it does not matter

Two official sources give two different times for the same football game. Utah State’s Parent and Family Weekend page lists the Troy fixture at 5:00 p.m.; Troy’s own athletics schedule lists it at 6:30 p.m.

We are not going to pick one. Kick-off times at this level are set by television broadcast partners weeks ahead, and both figures may move again before September.

It also changes nothing about your booking. A 5:00 p.m. kick-off and a 6:30 p.m. kick-off both finish in the evening, both follow a day that starts with a 5K at 8:30 a.m., and both come after a Friday night that runs past midnight. The nights you need are the Friday and the Saturday either way.

Where the rooms actually are

Measured on the homecoming weekend itself, not on an average night:

Brigham City is the answer for most people. On the weekend Logan fell to seven, Brigham City still held nineteen, and 37 minutes each way is a real but manageable cost.

Ogden is where the depth is and the drive is the catch: 121 properties, and 63 minutes by road despite being under fifty miles out. Cache Valley is ringed by mountains, and the road down is a canyon rather than a straight run.

Garden City on Bear Lake was checked and left out of this table. It returned a count above a hundred, which no village of that size supports, so the search had resolved to the wider Bear Lake rental area rather than the town itself.
