Texas State runs six ceremonies over two days in December 2026, three on the Friday and three on the Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day, and it names the college attending every one. Find yours in the table below before anything else, because a 10 a.m. Friday ceremony and a 6 p.m. Saturday ceremony are opposite ends of the same weekend and need opposite bookings. Commencement is held at the University Events Center, and parking is free, with ADA-accessible shuttles running from lots A and B from an hour and a half before the ceremony. Spring 2027 runs Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 May and summer 2027 is Friday 6 August, dates only.

Six ceremonies, and Texas State tells you which is yours
| Ceremony | College |
|---|---|
| Fri 11 Dec, 10:00 a.m. | Education, and the Graduate College |
| Fri 11 Dec, 2:00 p.m. | Science and Engineering, and the Graduate College |
| Fri 11 Dec, 6:00 p.m. | Applied Arts, Health Professions, and the Graduate College |
| Sat 12 Dec, 10:00 a.m. | McCoy College of Business, and the Graduate College |
| Sat 12 Dec, 2:00 p.m. | Liberal Arts, and the Graduate College |
| Sat 12 Dec, 6:00 p.m. | Fine Arts and Communication, and the Graduate College |
Those times are published, and have been for a while.
Read the table before you book. The spread is wide: a family in the Education ceremony is done by lunchtime on Friday, and a family in Fine Arts and Communication is still in the building at eight on Saturday evening. Those are different numbers of nights, and in a corridor local guidance says fills early, guessing wrong is expensive.
Note that the Graduate College appears in all six. Master’s and doctoral candidates graduate alongside their own college rather than in a separate ceremony, so a graduate student’s day is set by their discipline.
Two Texas State pages disagree, and one of them will mislead you
This is worth flagging rather than smoothing over, because it is the kind of thing that sends a family away with the wrong impression.
Texas State’s future-dates page says: “Exact times and college assignments will be released at a later time.”
Texas State’s ceremony schedule page already lists all six, with times and colleges, under an explicit Fall 2026 heading.
Both are live on txst.edu right now. A reader who lands on the first one concludes the December schedule is unpublished and goes away to wait for it. It is published, and it is on the second one.
For the 2027 rounds that “released at a later time” line is simply accurate: nothing beyond the dates exists yet.
The venue, and the part of it that is not published
Commencement is held at the University Events Center. Texas State states that on its own commencement directions, parking and seating page.
One distinction is worth keeping, because it is what this cluster got wrong before. The university names that building for commencement in general, not round by round: it is not restated against 11 December, or against any 2027 date. That is normal for a standing venue and it is good enough to plan around.
The distinction is narrower than it looks. Strahan Arena is the arena inside that centre, and on Texas State’s commencement site that specific name is attached to exactly one ceremony: the already-held Saturday 1 August 2026 summer round. Carrying a past round’s arena onto a future one is the mistake this project has a standing rule against, so this page names the University Events Center and not Strahan Arena.
Getting in: free parking, shuttles, and a radio station
Texas State publishes more practical detail here than most universities on this site, and all of it is on the same directions page.
- Parking is free, in designated lots shown on a commencement parking map.
- Shuttle buses run from lots A and B, starting an hour and a half before the ceremony, with the last bus leaving an hour and a half after it ends. All of them are ADA accessible.
- Tune to KZOS-FM 103.1 on the day for live parking and traffic information. That is the university’s own instruction, and it is a useful sign of how much traffic six ceremonies across two days generates in a town this size.
- Expect lane closures and redirected traffic: the university police manage the flow.
- Seating is assigned by degree level, and Texas State reserves the right to change the graduates’ arrangement before the ceremony starts.
With three ceremonies a day at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., one crowd is leaving as the next arrives. The shuttle window opening ninety minutes ahead is the number to plan against, not the ceremony time.
Spring is the larger round and it is a three-day event
| Round | Dates | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2026 | Fri 11 and Sat 12 December | Six ceremonies, times and colleges published |
| Spring 2027 | Thu 13, Fri 14 and Sat 15 May | Dates only |
| Summer 2027 | Fri 6 August | Date only |
Spring is a genuinely different trip. Texas State’s own newsroom described spring 2026 as record-setting: more than 5,200 degree candidates across eight ceremonies over three days. A three-day round starting on a Thursday means families arriving and departing on different days, which spreads lodging demand out rather than concentrating it, and also means the corridor stays busy for longer.
If your ceremony is spring 2027, you have a date and nothing else. Book the nights, watch for the schedule.
December measures flat on the corridor
Five matched two-night searches in San Marcos, one session, 16 August 2026:
| Window | Bookable properties |
|---|---|
| 13 to 15 November | 61 |
| 20 to 22 November | 64 |
| 10 to 12 December (commencement) | 61 |
| 8 to 10 January 2027 | 59 |
| 15 to 17 January 2027 | 59 |
Level with its controls. San Marcos carries about sixty bookable properties in any week, and six December ceremonies packed into two days have not visibly moved that four months out.
That sits alongside local hospitality guidance describing graduation families booking out the corridor well in advance, and both can be true. The guidance describes spring, a three-day round with more than five thousand candidates. December is smaller, shorter, and measured.
What we checked, and what we could not
The six December ceremonies, their times and their college assignments come from Texas State’s own commencement schedule page, read 17 August 2026. The 2027 dates come from the university’s future-dates page. The University Events Center, and the parking, shuttle and seating detail, come from the commencement directions, parking and seating page. The narrower name Strahan Arena appears on the guest-information page attached to the already-held August 2026 ceremony, which is why it is not used here. Every weekday was verified: 11 December 2026 Friday, 12 December Saturday, 13 May 2027 Thursday, 14 May Friday, 15 May Saturday, 6 August 2027 Friday.
Unestablished: a per-round venue confirmation, since Texas State names the building for commencement generally rather than against a specific date; ticket limits; guest allocations; livestream; and all spring and summer 2027 times and college assignments.

Frequently asked questions
When is Texas State's fall commencement?
Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December 2026, six ceremonies in total, three each day at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Both weekdays check out against the calendar.
Which ceremony is my college in?
Friday 10:00 a.m. is Education and the Graduate College. Friday 2:00 p.m. is Science and Engineering and the Graduate College. Friday 6:00 p.m. is Applied Arts, Health Professions and the Graduate College. Saturday 10:00 a.m. is McCoy College of Business and the Graduate College. Saturday 2:00 p.m. is Liberal Arts and the Graduate College. Saturday 6:00 p.m. is Fine Arts and Communication and the Graduate College.
Where are the ceremonies held?
The University Events Center. Texas State states it on its own commencement directions and parking page. One caveat worth keeping: the university names the building for commencement in general rather than round by round, so it is not restated against 11 December or against any 2027 date. Strahan Arena, the arena inside that centre, is a narrower name and appears on the commencement site attached only to the already-held August 2026 ceremony, so that is not carried forward here.
What is parking like?
Free, in designated lots on a commencement parking map. Shuttle buses run from lots A and B beginning an hour and a half before the ceremony, and the last bus leaves an hour and a half after it ends. All shuttles are ADA accessible. Texas State also asks guests to tune to KZOS-FM 103.1 on the day for live parking and traffic information, and warns that police may close lanes or redirect traffic.
One Texas State page says the times are not released. Which is right?
Both pages are live and they disagree. The future-dates page says "Exact times and college assignments will be released at a later time". The ceremony schedule page already lists all six December ceremonies with their times and colleges under a Fall 2026 heading. Treat the schedule page as current for December, and read the other line as applying to the 2027 rounds, which genuinely have nothing yet.
What about spring and summer 2027?
Both are published as dates only. Spring 2027 is Thursday 13, Friday 14 and Saturday 15 May. Summer 2027 is Friday 6 August. No times and no college assignments for either. The University Events Center is where Texas State says commencement is held, but it says so for commencement generally rather than against these dates.
Is spring a bigger round than December?
Considerably. Texas State's own newsroom called spring 2026 a record-setting commencement, more than 5,200 degree candidates across eight ceremonies over three days. December is six ceremonies over two.
Will San Marcos be full in December?
Not on the measurement. Five matched two-night searches on 16 August 2026 returned 61, 64, 61, 59 and 59 bookable properties, with the 10 to 12 December window the 61 against a control median of 60. Flat.
