A date, a time and a venue, all published

11am, Saturday 12 December 2026, Pershing Arena.

Truman gives all three, which puts it ahead of most universities on this site, plenty publish a date and leave the hour to an invitation six weeks out. It also publishes Spring Commencement at 2pm on Saturday 8 May 2027.

The December details are not just published, they are consistent. Pershing Arena at 11am was the arrangement in 2023, 2024 and 2025 too. When a university repeats a venue and an hour for four consecutive Decembers, that is about as reliable as an unconfirmed future date gets.

No tickets, and that is stated

Truman’s own page says guest attendance is not expected to be limited, unless public health or social distancing requirements return, in which case the ceremony could be split into two sessions with limited seating.

Absent that, bring whoever wants to come. That is a genuinely useful thing to know before booking flights for an extended family, and few universities say it this plainly.

The spring venue is the loose thread

Truman gives 8 May 2027 at 2pm but does not name a building.

That matters more than it looks, because Truman’s two ceremonies have historically been in different kinds of venue: December indoors at Pershing Arena, spring outdoors at Stokes Stadium. So you cannot carry the December venue across to May, and an outdoor ceremony has different implications for elderly relatives and for weather contingency.

Worth confirming directly if you are planning for May rather than December.

Nothing bookable inside 64 miles

This is the constraint that shapes everything else, and it emerged from testing rather than assumption.

Macon is the nearest settlement, and on a map it looks like the obvious fallback. But its coordinate returns a 404 on the booking map we use, which is the pattern we see in towns without enough hotel inventory to index. Rather than list a ring town we cannot actually map, we have said so.

The practical result: Kirksville’s own hotels, then a 64-mile drive.

The other university in town

Kirksville hosts A.T. Still University as well as Truman, a separate institution with its own academic calendar.

In a city of 17,000, that is not a footnote. Two universities means the same modest hotel base absorbs two sets of parents’ weekends, orientations, and graduations across the year. Any weekend where both institutions have something on will feel tighter than Truman’s own student numbers would suggest.

Gaps on this page

No graduating-class figure from Truman and no room count for Kirksville, so there is no arithmetic here of the kind our Kansas State and Binghamton pages carry. Neither number was published anywhere we could cite, and no Kirksville property has been confirmed sold out for a commencement.

What this page rests on is verifiable: a confirmed date, time and venue; a second university in town; and a 64-mile gap to the nearest bookable room.
