Friday the 18th, three ceremonies

UND’s Winter Commencement is Friday, December 18, 2026, at the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center, and it runs as three separate ceremonies across one day:

• 9 a.m. — doctoral and master’s degrees
• 1 p.m. — undergraduate
• 4 p.m. — undergraduate

Which undergraduate sitting applies to a given graduate depends on college, and that is a question for the university rather than for us. What matters for planning is that this is a full day at one venue, not a single morning event — and that the last ceremony finishes in the dark, in North Dakota, in December.

Then May, at a different building

Spring Commencement is Saturday, May 15, 2027, with doctoral and master’s degrees at 9 a.m. and undergraduate at 2 p.m.

It is at the Alerus Center, not the Chester Fritz.

That venue change is worth flagging harder than it sounds. Families who attended a winter ceremony and return in spring — or who look up “UND commencement venue” and find last December’s answer — can end up at the wrong building on the right day. Two published ceremonies, two different addresses.

Both dates come straight from UND’s own commencement page, which is rare enough on this site to be worth saying: most universities we cover have published one of their next two ceremonies. UND has published both.

Where the 2027 detail is still thin

A few things we did not carry forward, in the interest of not dressing up a partial picture.

UND’s page also lists ceremonies for individual schools around the spring window, including a School of Medicine and Health ceremony in early May 2027. One adjacent listing carried a year that did not read consistently with the others, so rather than reproduce a date we could not resolve cleanly, this cluster records only the two university-wide ceremonies — December 18, 2026 and May 15, 2027 — both of which were unambiguous.

If your graduate is in a professional school with its own ceremony, check the university’s page directly rather than relying on the university-wide dates here. And UND publishes no lodging guidance at all, which is why the hotel page names corridors rather than properties.
