Angelo State holds its Fall 2026 commencement on Saturday 12 December at the Junell Center and Stephens Arena, and it publishes dates further ahead than almost any university covered here: 14 and 15 May 2027, then 11 December 2027, then 12 and 13 May 2028. Two things make the day itself easier than most. Tickets are not required, which the university states in as many words, so you are not rationing seats among relatives. And the venue is fixed rather than announced per round. What is NOT published for any future ceremony is the time, or which college goes in which sitting, and at a university that runs several ceremonies across two days in spring, that is the piece that decides which day you need. Doors open one hour before each ceremony.

Dates two years out, from a page that also misleads you

Angelo State does something almost no university on this site does. It publishes six ceremonies ahead:

Round Date
Fall 2026 Saturday 12 December 2026
Spring 2027 14 May and 15 May 2027
Fall 2027 11 December 2027
Spring 2028 12 May and 13 May 2028

For a family with a student two years from finishing, that is a real planning horizon rather than a pattern to guess from.

The same page then undercuts it. Above that list is a block headed “Upcoming Ceremonies”, complete with per-college times and the venue, and not one of its entries carries a year. Its dates are 15 and 16 May. Spring 2027 is the 14th and 15th, so they do not match, and nothing else forthcoming does either. It is the past spring round, still sitting under the word “upcoming”.

If you take one thing from this page: scroll past that block to the Future Ceremonies list underneath.

Two constraints most universities impose, and Angelo State does not

Tickets are not required. The commencement FAQ says it plainly. There is no allocation per graduate, no request window, and no deadline to miss. Several universities covered on this site cap guests at five, or require a ticket for every person over the age of two. Here, if your family can get to San Angelo, they can get into the arena.

The venue does not move. “All ceremonies are held at Junell Center/Stephens Arena” is written as standing practice, not as a per-round announcement, so it holds for December, for both spring days, and for the 2027 and 2028 rounds. That is worth stating because several clusters covered here have had families sent to the wrong building by a venue quietly inherited from a previous year.

What Angelo State has not published, and why it matters here

Two gaps, and they are the same gap seen from different angles.

There is no published start time for the December ceremony, or for any future round. And there is no published split of which college attends which ceremony.

At most universities that would be a detail. Here it decides your trip, because spring is not one ceremony. In the most recent spring round Angelo State ran five college ceremonies across two days: 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the Friday, then 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the Saturday. Which of those two days a family needs depends entirely on the graduate’s college, and that assignment does not exist yet for 2027.

So for spring, book both nights or wait for the split. For December, the date is firm and the hour is not.

That five-ceremony pattern is the shape of a recent round and is stated as that. None of those times is carried forward as a 2026 or 2027 fact.

Inside the arena

Doors open one hour before each ceremony. Parking is in the A/B/C lots on the west side of the Junell Center, with accessible parking on both sides and a drop-off zone in front of the arena for anyone who would struggle with the walk. Live captions are provided, and accessible seating runs around the railing on the upper level of Stephens Arena with ushers on hand.

Angelo State asks guests to leave promptly afterwards so the space can be cleaned before the next ceremony. Read against the spring pattern above, that is a turnaround of roughly two and a half hours between sittings, so a family attending two ceremonies in one day should not plan a long lunch between them. No concessions are sold during the ceremony, and alcohol is not permitted.

Unpublished and therefore absent here: ceremony start times, ceremony length, the college-to-ceremony assignment for any future round, and any bag policy.

Frequently asked questions

What dates has Angelo State published?

Six ceremonies, out to 2028. Fall 2026 on 12 December; Spring 2027 on 14 and 15 May; Fall 2027 on 11 December; Spring 2028 on 12 and 13 May. All from the Future Ceremonies list on angelo.edu/commencement, read on 11 August 2026. We checked the weekday: 12 December 2026 is a Saturday.

Why does the site show May 15 and 16 as upcoming?

Because that block has not rolled over. The section headed "Upcoming Ceremonies" sits above the future list, carries times and the venue, and has no year on any entry. Its dates match neither Spring 2027 nor anything else ahead, so it is the past spring round still labelled upcoming. Use the Future Ceremonies list instead.

Do guests need tickets?

No. Angelo State's FAQ answers the question directly: "No, tickets are not required." There is no allocation per graduate and no request deadline to miss, which is unusual among the universities covered here and worth knowing before you decide who travels.

What time does the ceremony start?

Not published for December 2026, or for any future round. Doors open one hour before each ceremony, which is published, but the start time itself is not. In the most recent spring round Angelo State ran ceremonies at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the Friday and 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the Saturday. That is the shape of a round, not a 2026 schedule, and none of it is carried forward here as fact.

What can we take into the arena?

Less than you might assume. No concessions are sold during the ceremony, and alcohol is not permitted, with on-duty police removing anyone found in possession. Live captions are provided. Accessible seating is around the railing on the upper level of Stephens Arena, with ushers on hand.
