Two evenings that end at nine, in a town you cannot leave

Homecoming weekends are usually a Saturday afternoon with some things around it. Angelo State’s is two consecutive late evenings, and that combination is what decides your booking.

Friday 9 October: the Homecoming Honoree Luncheon runs 11.30 to 1 at the C.J. Davidson Conference Center, and the Alumni Bonfire Bash runs 7 to 9 p.m. at the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center.

Saturday 10 October: the Class Reunion Breakfast and Parade from 9 to 11 a.m. at Housley Tower, an alumni campus tour until noon, Ram Jam from 3 to 5, and then football against Sul Ross State from 6 to 9 p.m. at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

Now put that against the geography. San Angelo’s nearest separate hotel market is Abilene, 82 miles and about 95 minutes away. Nothing sits in between. An event that finishes at nine o’clock is not one you drive out of, and there are two of them back to back.

So this is a two-night weekend, Friday and Saturday, whether or not you arrived planning one. That is the window this page passes to the map above.

A schedule that is actually published

It is worth saying how unusual this is, because most homecoming pages covered on this site are a date and a promise that details are coming.

Angelo State has published the whole thing with times and venues. There is a candlelight Ram Remembrance Ceremony on Tuesday 6 October at 7 p.m. at the C.J. Davidson Conference Center, for members of the Ram Family who died between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026. The alumni events are dated. The game has a time on it. The reunion has a named guest list.

That last one is worth checking before you travel: this year’s reunion classes are those ending in six, specifically 1946, 1956, 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996, 2006 and 2016. If yours is one of them, the Saturday morning is the part of the weekend built for you, and it starts at nine.

Angelo State lists the game as the Homecoming and Seal Drop fixture. Kickoff is inside the published 6 to 9 p.m. window; a precise kickoff time is not separately stated and is not invented here.

Where to stay, and the same warning as every other weekend here

The ladder above sorts by drive time, and at this cluster it is short and unhelpful by design: Abilene at 95 minutes, Brownwood at 100, Midland at 110. Those are the options, and they are all most of two hours in the car.

San Angelo itself is a city of around 100,000 with a real hotel base along Loop 306 and the Knickerbocker corridor. On an ordinary weekend you would not think about it. On a homecoming weekend with alumni back for eight reunion classes and a home game, the sensible thing is to treat the town as the only option and book accordingly, because functionally it is.

We have no sellout evidence for a homecoming weekend specifically, and none is claimed. The availability counts attached to the ring towns in the ladder were gathered against a commencement weekend rather than an October Saturday, so read them as a guide to which market is deeper, not as a forecast for these dates.
