The date and the venue are set; the times are not

Fall Commencement is Friday 18 December 2026, in Lumberjack Arena. Cal Poly Humboldt carries both on its own commencement page, and the weekday checks out.

The page lists three colleges for that date: the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, the College of Natural Resources & Sciences and the College of Professional Studies. Each shows its ceremony time as to be determined. Graduate registration to participate opens on 5 October and closes on 18 November, so the times plausibly follow the close of registration. That last part is our inference, not something the university says.

That is very nearly everything the university has published. No ceremony times. No guest policy. No parking guidance. No confirmation of a livestream.

The venue is Lumberjack Arena, an indoor arena, which removes the weather question that the spring 2026 ceremony at the outdoor Redwood Bowl carried. For a family, the open question is which of the three your graduate is in, because a morning and an evening ceremony imply different nights. Re-check for the times before committing to flights or a departure plan.

Isolation is the planning constraint

Most clusters on this site have a deeper city an hour away. This one does not.

Forty properties across the three practical towns, then a three-hour gap to Redding over State Route 299, a mountain road that can close in winter.

Arcata is also roughly five hours from San Francisco with no continuous freeway, and the regional airport has limited service. The approach is a bigger problem than the room.

The practical consequence for a December ceremony with no published start time: stay inside the Arcata to Fortuna corridor. A family in Redding cannot absorb a 9 a.m. start being announced in November.

What to do with a half-published ceremony

Three things, in order.

Book now, refundable. The date is firm enough to book against and the market is small enough that waiting costs more than a cancellation option does. The where to stay page has the full ladder.

Re-check for the venue and time before committing to flights or a departure plan. Both should land well before December.

Ask about access needs early rather than late. With no published parking or accessibility guidance and no confirmed venue, anything requiring arrangement is better raised with the commencement office directly than discovered on the day.

Absent rather than estimated

Not published at the time of writing: the ceremony time for each of the three colleges, guest tickets or seating, parking, accessibility provision, and livestream arrangements.

Nothing has been carried forward from the spring 2026 round to fill those gaps. The Redwood Bowl is named on this page only to explain why the December venue is a different building.
