Register first, book second

Cal Poly Humboldt gates its whole weekend behind one step, and it is easy to miss.

“All students, staff, faculty, alumni, families, and friends need to register and pick up their wristband prior to attending events.”

And more specifically: all attendees must register to get access to the Block Party, which is the centrepiece of the weekend.

So the order of operations here is register, then book. Check-in runs on the University Quad, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again from 10 a.m. on the Saturday at the entrance to the Block Party itself.

Unusually for this cluster, the schedule is complete and timed. That is worth noting because the university’s own December commencement has neither a time nor a venue published.

The Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner is the one thing carrying its own cost: Cal Poly Humboldt notes it is an additional ticket purchase on top of Lumberjack Weekend registration.

Two nights, and why

Friday evening is genuinely full. Three separate events overlap between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., in three different places, ending with the drag show at the Van Duzer Theatre.

Saturday ends at nine in the evening with the Block Party.

Neither of those is a drive-home-afterwards proposition when the practical hotel market runs out twenty-five minutes south. Friday and Saturday nights is the honest recommendation, and a third if you want the Sunday hike, which starts at 10 a.m. out at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center rather than on campus.

The market is small and it does not get bigger

Forty properties across the three practical towns, then a three-hour gap. Eureka is the deeper search and Arcata puts you walking distance from the Block Party, which given a 9 p.m. finish is worth more than it usually would be.

What is not established

The Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner venue is listed by Cal Poly Humboldt as to be determined, and its ticket price is not published on the homecoming page. No road closures for the Block Party at Harpst and Rossow were published at the time of writing, though a street party on a campus corner implies some.

Registration cost, if any, is not stated on the page we read; the wristband requirement is stated plainly and the Hall of Fame Dinner is explicitly flagged as an extra purchase.

No named Arcata or Eureka property was confirmed sold out for the weekend. The counts are total bookable supply on the date checked.
