Colgate’s 2027 commencement is on Sunday 16 May, at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium.

The date comes from Colgate’s own commencement page, which lists it under future dates. We re-read it on 7 August 2026 and cross-checked the weekday independently: 16 May 2027 is a Sunday.

What the page does not yet give is a start time. Colgate had not published one for 2027 when we checked, and this page will not supply last year’s in its place.

Two and a half hours, outdoors, in central New York in May

This is the detail worth planning around, and it is the university’s own description rather than our inference.

Colgate holds commencement outdoors, weather permitting, and puts the ceremony at about two and a half hours.

Mid-May in central New York is not dependable. It can be pleasant and it can be cold and wet, and two and a half hours seated on a field in the second case is a long time. Layers, and something waterproof, are the sensible default rather than an over-precaution.

Colgate had not published a 2027 wet-weather plan when we checked. An outdoor ceremony of that length in that climate makes the contingency a fair thing to ask about, and it is worth asking rather than assuming there is an indoor alternative of equivalent capacity.

A Sunday ceremony concentrates one night

The day of the week does more work here than it does at most campuses.

A Sunday ceremony means the Saturday night is the one nearly every family needs. Not Friday, not a spread across a long weekend: one night, all at once, in a village whose two hotels total about 134 rooms.

That single-night concentration is why the lodging page in this cluster spends its time on Utica and Syracuse. It is also why Colgate’s own campus guest lodging is capped at one suite per graduate with a deadline.

If you are driving in on the Sunday morning instead, Utica at 30 minutes is manageable for a ceremony that is unlikely to start early. Confirm the time before relying on that.

What we checked, and what we could not

The date, the outdoor format and the approximate ceremony length all come from Colgate’s own commencement material, read on 7 August 2026, with the weekday cross-checked independently against the calendar. That check exists because a date carried forward from a previous year almost always fails it, and it has caught nine wrong dates on this project.

What we could not establish: the 2027 start time, the wet-weather plan, doors-open and seating arrangements, ticket limits per graduate, and parking at Andy Kerr Stadium. None had been published when we checked, so none are stated here.
