Cumberlands does something few universities do: its commencement page carries a lodging list that names the hotels, and it starts with the three at Williamsburg's I-75 exit, a mile and a half from campus. The Hampton Inn has 68 rooms, the Holiday Inn Express 69 and the Super 8 90 to 95, depending on the directory. Then the same list continues into Corbin, 24 minutes north, with four more. Read that as the university telling you the town fills, because it does: Cumberlands honoured more than 3,170 students at its Spring 2026 ceremonies and Williamsburg has about 5,000 people. The dated round is Tuesday 15 December 2026, four sittings by degree level from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the O. Wayne Rollins Athletics Center, and which sitting is yours decides whether you need the Monday night, the Tuesday, or both. Book Williamsburg now for December and follow the university's list north when it is gone.

The university wrote the list, and the list leaves town
Cumberlands’ commencement page has a lodging section, and it is unusually direct. It names the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Super 8 in Williamsburg. Then it keeps going: Best Western, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, TownePlace Suites and Fairfield Inn in Corbin, the next town up the interstate.
A university that lists the next town’s hotels on its own commencement page is telling you something about its own. Williamsburg has about 5,000 people. Cumberlands honoured more than 3,170 students at its Spring 2026 ceremonies.
The three at the exit
All three Williamsburg properties sit at the Highway 92 interchange on I-75, a mile and a half and three to four minutes from campus.
Hampton Inn Williamsburg, 530 Highway 92 West. 68 rooms per the Cvent venue directory.
Holiday Inn Express Williamsburg, 56 West Highway 92. 69 rooms per HotelPlanner.
Super 8 by Wyndham Williamsburg, 30 West Highway 92. 90 to 95 rooms: Northstar says 95, HotelPlanner 90, and this page records both. The largest at the exit, budget tier.
About 230 rooms in town. No matched-window availability series has been run for Williamsburg, so this page publishes no count of what remains around the ceremony; the university’s own list, and the class size, say enough.
Four sittings, and the night depends on yours
The dated round is Tuesday 15 December 2026, at the O. Wayne Rollins Athletics Center, and Cumberlands runs it as four sittings by degree level: undergraduate 10 a.m., graduate 12:30 p.m., undergraduate 3 p.m., graduate 5:30 p.m. All four are on the commencement page with the times, and each is streamed on the university’s Facebook page.
The sitting decides the night. A 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. ceremony needs the Monday night. A 5:30 p.m. December ceremony ends after dark and most families stay the Tuesday. Book the night that matches, and both if the sitting has not been assigned.
North along I-75, as the university suggests
Corbin, 24 minutes north. The university’s own list names four hotels here, which makes it the default overflow rather than a fallback.
London, 36 minutes, the next exit north with its own cluster of chain hotels.
Somerset, 66 minutes northwest on two-lane road. A regional service centre with chain hotels and a lake-tourism base; slower than the distance suggests.
Knoxville, 87 minutes south. A city’s worth of rooms and the nearest major airport. Too far to commute for a 10 a.m. sitting, sensible as the first or last night of a flying trip.
Drive times are off-peak road routes computed on 12 September 2026, not measured journeys.
Spring 2027, stated as unknown
Cumberlands’ Spring 2027 date is not publicly published. The academic calendar hub lists the term, but the calendar itself sits behind a login, and neither the commencement page nor the news feed carries the date. Spring 2026 was 1 and 2 May. This page does not infer 2027 from that, and will carry the date when the university posts it. The hotels do not change.

Frequently asked questions
Does Cumberlands recommend hotels?
Yes. Its commencement page has a lodging section naming Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Super 8 in Williamsburg, then Best Western, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, TownePlace Suites and Fairfield Inn in Corbin. General recommendations, not a block.
Which is closest to campus?
All three Williamsburg properties are at the Highway 92 exit off I-75, about a mile and a half and three to four minutes from campus. The Holiday Inn Express and Super 8 are neighbours on West Highway 92; the Hampton Inn is across the road.
How many rooms?
68 at the Hampton Inn per Cvent, 69 at the Holiday Inn Express per HotelPlanner, and 90 to 95 at the Super 8, where Northstar and HotelPlanner disagree. About 230 in the town.
Will Williamsburg sell out?
No matched-window availability series has been run here, so this page publishes no count. More than 3,170 students honoured in Spring 2026, a town of about 5,000, 230 hotel rooms, and a university that already routes visitors to the next town: the structure answers the question.
Where does the university send the overflow?
Corbin, 24 minutes north on I-75, where its own list names four more hotels. London is the next exit north at 36 minutes with its own cluster. Somerset is 66 minutes on two-lane road; Knoxville 87 minutes south with a city's worth and the nearest big airport.
Which night do we need?
It depends on the sitting. December's four run at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for undergraduates and graduates, then 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. A morning sitting needs the Monday night; a 5:30 p.m. finish in December means staying the Tuesday. Book the night that matches your sitting, and both if you are unsure.
What about Spring 2027?
The date is not publicly published; Cumberlands' future calendar is behind a login. Spring 2026 was 1-2 May. This page will carry the 2027 date when the university posts it, and the same three hotels apply.
