Murray State's travel page says it plainly: "Can't find a hotel room in Murray? Take a short drive and stay in Draffenville, Mayfield, Paducah or Paris." That is the university telling you the town fills, and this page follows it. Three hotels sit within a mile of the CFSB Center, the Hampton Inn & Suites a two-minute drive with 72 rooms, the Best Western University Inn with 72, and a Quality Inn. 1,642 applied to graduate in Spring 2026. December is settled, Saturday 12 December 2026 at 10 a.m. in the CFSB Center; spring is "May 8" on a calendar the Provost calls tentative, and Spring 2026 ran two days at Racer Arena, so book spring only on a cancellable rate and hold the Friday and Saturday nights. Mayfield and Paris are half an hour; Paducah, with the largest base, just under.

The university has already answered the question
Most lodging pages on this site have to establish that a college town fills. Murray State’s own travel page does it in one line: “Can’t find a hotel room in Murray? Take a short drive and stay in Draffenville, Mayfield, Paducah or Paris.”
Read that as the plan. Murray first, and the university’s four towns when Murray is gone.
Three within a mile of the arena
Hampton Inn & Suites Murray, 1415 Lowes Drive. A few hundred metres and two minutes from the CFSB Center. 72 rooms per the Cvent venue directory. The closest.
Best Western University Inn, 1503 North 12th Street. About a mile and three minutes. 72 rooms.
Quality Inn Murray University Area, 1210 North 12th Street. Two minutes. A room count was not confirmed in an English-language directory, so none is stated.
1,642 degree applicants in Spring 2026. No matched-window availability series has been run for Murray, so this page publishes no count of what remains; the university’s advice to drive to the next town is the count.
December is firm; spring is tentative
December 2026 is on the commencement page in full: Saturday 12 December 2026 at the CFSB Center, 10 a.m. Participation is RSVP-only for graduates, seating is general admission, bags are visually screened, and parking is at the Stewart Stadium lot with shuttles. The Friday night covers it.
Spring 2027 is one line, “COMMENCEMENT - May 8”, on the Provost’s tentative academic calendars page, and that page says “It may be updated without notice.” 8 May 2027 is a Saturday. Spring 2026 ran two days, 8 and 9 May, at Racer Arena, split by college. So the 2027 span, venue and times are all open, and the date itself is the university’s provisional one.
Book spring only on a cancellable rate, and hold the Friday and Saturday nights until the round is published.
The four towns, and one more
Mayfield, 30 minutes northwest, and Paris, Tennessee, 29 minutes south across the state line, are both on the university’s list and both small. Paducah, 57 minutes north on US 641 and I-24, is the regional city, on the university’s list, with the largest hotel base in the ring. Hopkinsville, 71 minutes east, is not on the list and is the far edge. Draffenville, which the university also names, is a small lake community folded into the Paducah direction here.
Drive times are off-peak road routes to the CFSB Center computed on 14 September 2026, not measured journeys.
Not claimed here
No commencement-specific hotel policy, because none of the three publishes one. No spring 2027 venue: December is the CFSB Center and Spring 2026 was Racer Arena, and this page does not choose for the university. No availability count, because none was measured.

Frequently asked questions
Which hotel is closest to the CFSB Center?
The Hampton Inn & Suites Murray at 1415 Lowes Drive, a few hundred metres and two minutes away, 72 rooms per Cvent. The Quality Inn on North 12th Street is two minutes, the Best Western University Inn (72 rooms) three.
Does Murray State recommend hotels?
Its travel page names towns rather than hotels: Draffenville, Mayfield, Paducah and Paris, "a short drive" when Murray is full. That is the university's own overflow advice.
Will Murray sell out?
No matched-window availability series has been run for Murray, so this page publishes no count. The university's own advice to drive to the next town answers the question, and 1,642 degree applicants in 2026 against about 144 confirmed rooms in the two counted hotels explains it.
Why cancellable only for spring?
Because "COMMENCEMENT - May 8" appears on the Provost's tentative academic calendars page, which states "It may be updated without notice." No other source carries the 2027 date yet. December is stated by the commencement office and can be booked freely.
Which nights?
December: the Friday night for a 10 a.m. Saturday ceremony. Spring: the Friday and Saturday nights, held refundably, because Spring 2026 ran two days, 8 and 9 May, split by college, and the 2027 span is not published.
Where is the overflow?
Mayfield, 30 minutes northwest, and Paris, Tennessee, 29 minutes south, both named by the university. Paducah, 57 minutes north, has the largest hotel base in the ring and is also on the university's list. Hopkinsville, 71 minutes, is the far edge.
Are there two venues?
Yes. December 2026 is in the CFSB Center; Spring 2026 was at Racer Arena. The spring 2027 venue is not published. The map on this page is anchored on the CFSB Center.
