Fordham is in New York City and has effectively no hotel next to it, which is the opposite of what anyone expects. This is not our guess: FORDHAM PUBLISHES ITS OWN LIST of hotels near the Rose Hill campus, with the mileage beside each, and the nearest entry is three miles away. The rest are six, eight and seventeen — Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains. The university's own recommendations run NORTH into Westchester rather than south into the city. So plan a journey rather than a walk, and pick your direction deliberately: Westchester is cheaper and is where Fordham points you; Manhattan is far more expensive but sits on the Metro-North Harlem line that runs directly to Fordham station beside the campus, which makes it more practical than its drive time suggests. Book early either way — and confirm whether your graduate's school holds a separate diploma ceremony, because that date was not published.

A university in New York City with nothing next door

Every instinct says a Bronx campus inside the largest hotel market in America is an easy booking. This cluster is the exception, and the evidence is Fordham’s own.

The university publishes an Area Hotels page listing what is near each campus, with the mileage in brackets. For Rose Hill it reads:

Hotel Fordham’s stated distance
Marriott Residence Inn, Bronx at Metro Center Atrium 3 miles
Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers 6 miles
Hotel NoMa, New Rochelle 8 miles
Crowne Plaza White Plains 17 miles

Three miles is the closest Fordham is willing to call near. And the list then runs north into Westchester — away from the city, not into it.

That is worth more than any third-party “hotels near Fordham” page, because it is the university’s own answer to the question you are asking. Treat this as a cluster with no adjacent lodging and plan the journey deliberately.

Two directions, and they are genuinely different trips

North into Westchester is where Fordham points you. Yonkers at six miles, New Rochelle at eight, White Plains at seventeen. Cheaper than anything in the city by a wide margin, suburban, and straightforward to drive. If cost is the priority, this is the direction.

South into Manhattan is the expensive option and the more convenient one, for a reason that is easy to miss. The Metro-North Harlem line runs from Grand Central to Fordham station, beside the campus. Fordham’s own list flags the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central as “very convenient for travel by Metro North Railroad” — which is the university telling you how it expects a good share of visitors to arrive.

So Manhattan is not the absurd choice the mileage suggests. It is a train ride rather than a drive, in a city where that distinction matters more than distance.

This page does not publish a journey time, because it has not measured one. What it can tell you is that the rail link exists, the university points at it, and that changes the calculation.

Book early, and book the right date

Two reasons to move sooner rather than later on this cluster.

The near inventory is thin — three miles is the starting point, and the properties Fordham names are individually modest. There is no deep local pool to fall back into.

And the date may not be the one you think. Fordham’s commencement is two events: the University Commencement on Saturday 22 May 2027, and separate school diploma ceremonies whose 2027 dates were not published at this check. For many families the diploma ceremony is the one that matters. Confirm it with the school before you book anything around 22 May.

Two things stated rather than hidden

The map anchor. The live-availability map below will not accept Rose Hill’s own coordinate — the endpoint rejects it, and every point on a dense grid within 2.7 kilometres. It is therefore anchored on Bedford Park, the neighbourhood immediately north of campus and just under a kilometre away. The results are the right neighbourhood; the pin is not the campus gate.

No availability measurement. This site publishes matched-window availability counts for some campuses — five equal-length searches in the same town, the ceremony window third, two controls either side. That has not been run here. The judgement on this page rests on Fordham’s own published mileages, which is a stronger foundation than usual, and it is labelled as judgement rather than presented as a count.

  • Marriott Residence Inn New York The Bronx at Metro Center Atrium: At 1776 Eastchester Road in the Bronx, and listed by FORDHAM ITSELF at "(3 miles)" from the Rose Hill campus - the nearest entry on the university's own area-hotels page. Both the address and that mileage were read on Fordham's page rather than a booking site, which is why they are quoted here. Three miles is the closest this university is prepared to call near, and that is the single most useful fact about lodging on this cluster. No room count is stated on Fordham's list and none is claimed here; no commencement-specific policy was independently confirmed.
  • Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers: At 7000 Mall Walk, Yonkers, and listed by Fordham at "(6 miles)" from Rose Hill. Included because it shows the shape of the university's own recommendations: the list runs NORTH into Westchester rather than south into the city. Fordham also lists Hotel NoMa in New Rochelle at eight miles and the Crowne Plaza White Plains at seventeen. Mileages are Fordham's own. No room count stated and none claimed.

Drive times are typical off-peak road times, not measured journeys, and in this corridor the train is usually the better measure: Metro-North's Harlem line runs from Grand Central to Fordham station beside the campus, which is why a Manhattan hotel is more viable here than a thirty-five minute drive suggests. Note also that Fordham has a second main campus at LINCOLN CENTER in Manhattan, and its area-hotels page lists a separate set of hotels for it - those are not relevant to a Rose Hill ceremony and should not be confused with the Rose Hill list.

Frequently asked questions

Is there really nothing near campus?

Not on Fordham's own reckoning. Its Area Hotels page lists hotels near Rose Hill with mileages, and the closest is three miles out. The rest run to six, eight and seventeen miles. That is the university telling you what counts as near, and it is more reliable than any third-party "hotels near Fordham" listing.

What is the nearest hotel Fordham names?

The Marriott Residence Inn New York The Bronx at Metro Center Atrium, 1776 Eastchester Road, which Fordham lists at "(3 miles)" from Rose Hill. Both the address and the mileage come from the university's page rather than a booking site.

Should we go north or into Manhattan?

North is cheaper and is the direction Fordham's own list points — Yonkers at six miles, New Rochelle at eight. Manhattan costs far more but is on the Metro-North Harlem line that runs to Fordham station beside the campus, so the journey is a train rather than a drive. Choose on whether you would rather pay less or travel more simply.

How long does the train take?

This page does not publish a journey time it has not measured. What can be said is that Fordham's own hotel list flags the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central as "very convenient for travel by Metro North Railroad", and the Harlem line serves Fordham station directly — so the university clearly expects a meaningful share of visitors to arrive that way.

Will we struggle to find a room?

Not in the metropolitan area, which has effectively unlimited supply. You will struggle to find one CLOSE. No matched-window availability series has been run here so this page publishes no count, but the shape of the problem is distance rather than scarcity.

Why is the map centred slightly north of campus?

A technical limitation, stated rather than hidden. The live-availability map will not accept the campus coordinate itself, so it is anchored on Bedford Park, the neighbourhood immediately north of Rose Hill and just under a kilometre away. The results are the right neighbourhood.

What date should we book around?

Saturday 22 May 2027 for the University Commencement. But Fordham runs separate school diploma ceremonies whose 2027 dates were not published, so check with the school before committing — that may be the date you actually need.
